Red face Problem with my 8

I drove home today and feel the hot air came out from the A/C. Just got it from the dealer for 1 week so i didnt abuse the car. Dun know why the engine is damn hot today. So i opened the hood and smell somthin burned inside. It smells like plastic got burn. I drive around 70km/h all da time. Another thing that bother me is the lack of power in the first 1 gear. It weird cuz i dont feel i m driving a 238 hp car. Sometimes it pick up speed is slower than a camry or a civic even though i use to punch up to 3 or 4 thoundsands rmp. My last question is about the gear. Does ur the gears of ur 8s shaken alot when it in neutral. Mime shakes like hell even when the car is full stop. My friend said it is abnormal coz only old used car is like that. Please help!
U all know that we cant count dealers coz all they usually say is rx8 is like that man. And they dont know ****.

unusual shaking of your transmission may indicate issues with either your engine mount or transmission mount. Take it back to the dealer. Another possibility, especially if you're not use to driving the car, is that driving in low RPMs can cause unusual drivetrain shaking.

Brand new, off the dealer's lot cars have protective coatings on certain engine parts that will burn off when you first take the car to full operating temperature. This may be what you are smelling.

The number shown in temp gauge represents the temp inside or outside the car? And 70F equal to how much C? Wat level of temp is considered normal.

Definitely need to rev the engine higher. I rev to 9,000 rpm every day once the engine is warm. Mine runs in the middle of the tempature guage. Agree also with others all new cars come with a rust inhibitor which smells before it burns off. Use your rotary motor and rev it. Congrats on your purchase

70F is around 22 C and that's the ambient air temperature. The stick does shake a little bit. My previous car (11-year old) did not have such shake so it could be normal for rotaries. The take-off in first gear feels slow if you launch at 2,000 RPM or smaller, that's quite normal.

To go fast you must be over 6000 rpm, this car doesn't have too much torque so you won't feel hard lunges at low RPMs. Try to keep it between 3-4000 for normal driving.

Violent shakes? Or just vibrating? Vibrating shift handle is fairly normal

FYI, to change the ambient temp display from Fahrenheit to Celsius, just press and hoold the "AMB" key on the panel. Some vibration of the shifter is normal. If you're accustomed to a front-drive car, you should bear in mind that the RX-8 shifter is mounted directly on the transmission, not to the car body as in a FWD car.

Hope this helps!

If you're talking about heat radiating from the transmission hump try installing some insulation underneath. there is a DIY thread here that tackles this issue. Rotary engines generate alot of heat, this becomes magnified due to the fact that the car's engine sitting closer to the passenger cabin than most piston-driven cars. You just need to get used to it or you can try pulling out your carpeting and install insulation along the firewall.

Torque? Unless you're planning on going FI (forced-induction, i.e. turbos, supercharger, etc) there is no quick and cheap way to increase torque in this car. Catback exhausts, intakes, lighter flywheels, underpulley kits may improve standing start response but then you're in the wrong car for that application.
