It still has a manual rack, but is electrically assisted instead of using belt. The throttle is completely drive-by-wire though.

Well, it's been mentioned in all the original road tests, in the technical documents/analysis/reports/features highlights, in the Yamaguchi book, and in the owners manual... Yeah, you should have known this!

It's very similar to the Honda S2000 and Toyota MR2 Spyder - electric assist instead of hydraulic assist.

Regards,
Gordon

What's the problem?
It is not steer by wire, but rather electric assist (similar to hydraulic assist but easier to control IMHO, plus no mess).
Man I love the steering in the RX.

I.e. the high-pressure hose can't spring a pinhole leak and spray a tiny jet of fluid onto something hot so that you smell something burning but damned if you can see where it's coming from.

Neat eh? Pretty new stuff but I think GM has already been doing this on some model or other.

BTW is the Rx8 throttle by cable or wire? If it's not by wire they should get a clue from GM on this one too - might give them more control over dealing w/ flooded engines!
