Is it possible?

You'll have to elaborate on this for me. I was under the impression that the VQ's are nice motors. Nissan is putting them in everything. the 4.0L they use in the Xterra (and probably a bunch of other stuff)is fairly impressive in the limited knowledge I have of.

yea i agree if u wanna swap go with a 13b or lsX of some sort why would you swap for a vq when you could throw on a turbo for less and get almost on par performance!

I was speaking mainly to the vq35de out of the 350 z, that engine is a giant piece of ****. It was never designed for major FI power.

It's essentially a lightweight vg30de, which came out of the 300zx the VG is a heavy piece of **** but its durable. the VQ lineup isn't bad but the vq35de is a time bomb.

If I were to swap any nissan motor it would be out of a skyline. Like the series in 2 fast 2 furious. Was that a r33 orr35 or whatever.

You state that you love the sond, just FYI even if you do successfully swap a VQ it'll never sound the same as a Z. Ever heard a Z with an aftermarket exahust? Doesn't sound the same.

True, I was assuming he liked the howl from the stocker. I mean no Aftermarket exhaust for the vq keeps that sound.

not just fail but epic fail. it would most likely be the biggest waste of money I had ever heard of.

from what i've read, the vq doesn't respond to boost very well, so most turbo kits tend to keep the psi low unless you build the engine.

if this is true, you'll find the renesis will end up able to go beyond your v6 swap in terms of power to the wheels and for lower cost (v6 + turbo vs renesis + turbo).

if you're going to do an engine swap, 20b or LSx is the only logical choice.

The VQ is n/a hence not developed for boost. However, for large amounts of boost of course it'll blow just like our rennys. But with a good tune on a conservative 8 psi, my friend is pushing out some where around 375 to the wheels. Alot of guys on the Z forums especially on the latter 350z models with the including the, vq35hr are pushing better reliable horsepower n/a with just bolt-ons. While FI'd they make very good horsepower and have a great power band all the way through redline.
The new 370z though is making very nice power gains with bolt-ons. If the twin turbo kits for that are anything like the g37 counter parts, they will be making some huge horsepower around 500-600 horses easily and reliable.(16X where are you?)

For OP, I guess the questions comes down to which model Z he's talking about what kind of performance does he want, i.e. what kind of driving/racing he wants to do. You can tune any engine for high horse power, just depends like what everyone else says, how deep are your pockets. To each there own, but if you want a dyno queen then you'll have no choice but FI with any engine you chose.
