LOL! I guess everyone expects dealers not to make a profit and do only charity work. If yall only knew what it really cost to run a dealership.
sja31734 sorry for your miss fortune. It's not like you could push your car all the way to your house, do the necessary research, and fix it yourself like most posters here can do to save a buck.

but you also cant deny that there ARE DEALERSHIPS OUT THERE running by a bunch of money sucking leeches, they want to suck every single "sheep" walk into their dealership dry.
Telling them to change oil when its not even needed, telling someone to replace their exhaust when its a gas cap CEL.
This is the very reason why a lot of people hate dealerships.

I think we all know (ok, most of us know) that its hard to run a dealership.

Dealership service departments are sales based just like any business that is sales based. What you guys don't know is the auto manufacturer is the driving force behind service up sales. Sale more parts and service, the manufacturer makes more money. It's not just the dealership. There is always some give and take. How do yall think the manufacturer get compensated for numerous warranty repairs? Warranty repairs aren't cheap. Also some services are region specific (temp, climate ext). Every owners manual has a normal and severe service scheduel. Have you not read it?
Something else for you, for every person that does routine maintenance at a dealership, there is also someone that tries to stretch whatever service that is needed for their vehicle because they think is doesn't need it. Those customers are typically the ones that think their vehicle is unreliable because of all the problems they tend to have. I've worked for dealers that had customers that hardly ever did their proper maintenance and always complained how unreliable their vehicle was. Then I've worked for dealers that had customers comming in all time for every little thing and even with over 150,000 miles and still paying for fluid fluses because they take care of their car.
The required services are outlined in your owners manual. How YOU choose to maintain your vehicle is entirely up to you.
