Pictures: Spark Plugs @ 37.5K Miles

Recently installed a new set of spark plugs. I took pictures of the plugs I pulled with ~37.5K miles on them. For your viewing pleasure:

I pulled mine at about 43k they looked the same, with the exception of one was broken. When I took the wires off, one of the plugs came off with it. No force required it was that brittle.

I pulled mine out to check on them about a week ago, first time ever doing so, and all of the plugs are round all the way around, like the second picture. is that normal?

That is not normal. It looks like someone gave you only either the leading or trailing plugs (I forget which). You should get a new pair of whichever one's you're missing and swap them out ASAP.

I posted these pictures in Nov 2007. 48,000 miles Leading plugs had been changed in a previous recall.

These are pretty normal looking for a rotary.

looks like maybe a bit of high-speed glazing. There's a bit of crud on the far side of the center electrode on the leading plug. Can't tell for sure but appears somewhat metallic. I'd probably replace these.

the thickness is from the car running pig rich.

See the back? that shows you it still is running rich. It came from idlig the car before you changed the plugs.

The light tan reveals that you car is still capable of running correctly or you were just recently running the **** out of it and it hasn't had the chance to turn black yet.

Interesting - is it normal than for the RENESIS to be running rich? Just drawing from the handful of comments here stating that these plugs look normal for the amount of miles on them.

i dont think the plugs look bad at all. a little buildup but for a rotary, thats normal. remember, the engine uses oil in the combustion chamber for cooling and for lubrication. oil burning can really kill a set of plugs, as can high engine temps. i woud feel comfortable replacing those without hesitation but i say that your engine is running well, perhaps a bit on the rich side..better than being too lean
