yea, unlike some moron like you, at least I know how gasoline and "GOOGLE" works.
Just because I eat healthy and exercise daily, doesn't mean I wont get Cancer.
Maybe you should get your engine tested.
If I didn't, I wouldn't know.
not to mention, you got a 06. I got a 05. and yeah, my 05 had this "problematic" ECU flash a year longer than your 06 did.
and Im sure Engine fails even with Mazda's "recommendation", check Consumer reports and see which engine fails the most, 04-05.
If Mazda's stuff works 100% as it is in S1, they wouldn't make all these changes found in S2. I mean err ... no way ... Mazda's stuff works 100% ... oh yeah I must be wrong ... they made all those changes just for "fun" ... must be must be ...

Everyone's a comedian - or thinks they are. Just part of the price of free speech. Don't take any of the cracks personally. Most of the folks who said rude things (including nycgps) are good guys, just having some fun.
BTW - if you want to have some fun back with nycgps, ask him if there's a relation between his failed engine and the fact that he used a type of oil Mazda recommends against.

anyway, I appreciate the page you provided. I did spent a lot of time searching and asking but regarding the question I put there is simply no real, documented answer. I can find here and there that octane doesn't offer any power (fact) , low octane can damage the enginer (fact) and that premium petrol has more additives helping to keep the engine cleaner (fact/assumption ? )
Mazda on the other hand recommendes specific octane rating as 10:1 might be high..but is not outragous high compare with so many other engines out there...
now... here's a question that was never answered ! are all those facts/assumptions above applicable for the rotary engines ? All answers we can get here and there are based on general knowledge and not specific to our engines and their special way of working with their special design and parts.
example is that I got such a clear answer here in the firum that a very high octane petrol will not burn properly hence will create more carbon residues inside the engine while the 'go find the information yourself' sites (which by the way some of them look more realiable) say that premium quality fuels do have superior additive packages that help to maintain engine condition and reduce/dissolve carbon deposits. Completely contradictive !!!!

Ok, I'm sorry you do not acquire the necessary skills to Google.
1) Premium fuel should be used in the 8 unless you have a NEED to use higher octane. So, for you, don't use anything higher then 93.
2) Deposits are not from the gasoline, they are from the additives in the gasoline. The amount of deposits left behind will depend on the additives and most gas station have different additives. Just use a name you "trust"
3) I found this information within the first page provided by Google.
Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to use the Net and he won't bother you for weeks.
I was trying to teach you to search so you don't get bashed for making stupid threads like this one.

and since all results are contradictive I decided to seek help here... but I guess most of the people are happy by what one page says.
anyway,
enough said....I got information by official mails with results and test. No need to continue this discussion further.

As someone said, "octane" rating is based on resistance to engine knock. There are many ways to achieve a higher octane rating; gasoline contains many compounds. So I don't know if there is a hard and fast rule that can correlate carbon accumulation with octane rating. Or with "Carbon content" -- all gas is hydrocarbons, after all. Carbon is a prime component of any gallon of gas. There is plenty of Carbon to go around. I'd say don't worry about Octane in this regard; the detergent formulation is probably more important, imo. Look for brands that comply with Tier 1 gasoline standards.

From where comes "Yet"? Who/what are you contradicting?
87 octane is adequate for the stock engine. The manual agrees. Altitude and other environmental factors as well as driving habits and tuning can increase octane requirements. In other words, YMMV
