PCM Flash Verification

I know this question has probably been asked a dozen times but...

I pick up my car on Friday. I asked the salesman if the PCU has been re-flashed to M. He says all cars are re-flashed that are still on the lot.

The question is, How can the Service dept. show me that it truly has been done prior to me taking delivery of the car?

Skeptical and paranoid by nature or nurture, not really sure which.

Question from a new owner

I have owned my rx-8 for two weeks now and love it. I have also been reading many posts regarding the M flash upgrade. Is this something that the dealer should do at no charge? What affect does this upgrade have on the car? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

thanks!

If you search there is a brake test. There is suppose to be a sticker on the inside of the hood. Purchased mine two months ago and they (salesman) told me that it had been flashed.BUT, took it back 7 days later for mods and ask the service guy to check it , and it had not. So they did it and put the sticker inside the hood. I believe if your vin is under 35000 then you should make sure, because i do not believe all dealers did the upgrade. Mine is number 30000 , build date 1/04 , purchased 5/04. It is free and its easy for them to check. They just hook it up and it tells them right away. There is also a TSP (might not be called this) from mazda telling them to do it. If you search under recalls you can find a least of issues, most issues on there have been taken care of already but i believe the m flash update is hit or miss under the 35000 vin range. ( build date is on drivers door and the last 5 digits of the vin is your number, 00012= no 12) If you already know this info then excuse me, but most people ask when there new. BUY THE WAY WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the welcome, EMB. And thanks for the info. I did find the service bulletin web site and printed off the bulletins I think pertain to my car. Gonna bring them with me tomorrow to the dealer. (just in case) My VIN is 33055 so, yes, my car needs the flash.

I will ask the service dept to show me on the computer where the work has been done BEFORE I sign the papers. Generally, I just dont trust em to do the right thing
