Part out 2004 RX8 with only 74K miles?

My RX8 is a 2004 with 74K miles on it. At 68,000 the coils went out which didn't bother me as I upgraded to the BHR system.

Now at 74,000 I'm being hit with the following:

- Oil metering pump failed $1,300
- ECU bad $1,140
- A*hole independent mechanic flooded the car, $260 for plugs
- Labor I'm still waiting for from the dealer

I've sunk about $700 so far and could probably walk away with an RX8 that doesn't go above 4,000 RPMs. Cars value is maybe $7K (I would probably sell to a dealer).

So if I part the car out could I likely make more than the $7K?

You'll probably make more parting out. It depends on the condition of the car.
However, do you have the knowledge, time and motivation to do that?

Did your Independent mechanic inform you of all these problems & costs?

Would probably be best if you had a rotary specialist take a look at it.

Just remeber this guys : he changed his coils at 68k miles. Im pretty sure he is one of those guys that never give a **** about proper maintenance, keep pushing it to the limits but when **** breaks, he just blame it on someone/something else.

Oh yes u deserved the bill.

Yeah that's right jackass. Because the OEM coils are rock solid and changing them at 68K means I didn't take care of my car.

How does driving related to an ECU? And if I drove hard, why is my clutch not in need of replacing? Go **** yourself.

Ask your trusty mechanic WHY the car needs these parts. Have him show you why he came to these conclusions.

You completely misinterpreted that...

He meant you're a crappy owner because you waited all the way until 68k miles to change your coils...Not that you're a crappy owner because they went bad at 68k miles...

Why does this make him a crappy owner??? I have 50k on mine and am only changing the coils because I want the upgrade...NOT because they are bad. Not ALL RX-8 coils go bad @ 30k miles.

But IMO...to get 7k parting out you would have to sell a lot more than the above listed parts and is your time worth it?

How was it determined that these parts indeed failed? I have a feeling the dealer wants to take you for a ride.

- A*hole independent mechanic flooded the car, $260 for plugs
Paying $260 for just plugs is a big fail. You can get a set of plugs for about $70 or $80. Replacing them is a piece of cake.
