Picked up my RX-8 on 7/17/03, and on 1/17/04 (6 months later) the CEL light comes on solid. 2 days later it is in the service department to see what is up, and they tell me it has thrown a P420 code on the PCM. 1st CEL issue I've had.

In another thread, khoney mentions he had this same code show up last week, and according to his sig he bought his RX-8 ~ 6 months prior.

In both cases, our PCM's were reflashed by the service department.

Could this be the infamous break-in period that Mazda built into our cars? Instead of being a mileage only thing, maybe it is mileage & time that triggers when the PCM is to be reflashed to get different mapping?

Am I all wet? Any other early owners that have seen their CEL light up right around 6 months of ownership?

 

Picked up mine 7/14/03 and no cel codes yet. Only issue was oil
light. Drain pan change fixed that.
