p0171 and p0443 question

p0171 and p0443 question

Hello all, ok so heres my story for my upcoming question.

Today I went to my auto service class today to check my car for some codes,
the check engine light has been lit for some time now and i've been getting pretty paranoid about it. ( the CEL came on randomly....just turned the car on and it was up again{ its been raining alot lately too }, the other first time it came on was due to over revving....i hit 100 =[ . { thats a possible CEL too right?} . )

So as I was in class, Another friend of mine had to check some codes on his truck too, he asked to check it first so we went to get the codes starting with him.

While we checked it, he came up with the code p0171, which means his truck was running too lean. ( I think?)

after we checked his truck, i went over to my mazda and waited for the reading.
soon after, i got the same code + the code p0443.

I went back into the shop and went on the computer to see what was wrong and check how to reset the CEL.

unfortunatley i didnt really have any luck

so I wanted to check the codes one more time.... and as i went to go check, There were NO more Codes! ( i forgot to mention it just said Err, im guessing Error?)

Has this happened to anybody?

so is my car ok? is there really any problem? can i reset the CEL without any worries? how do i reset my CEL? or is disconnecting the battery the only way to go.


so to sum things up really fast:

Checked for codes

2 codes popped up : p0171 + p0443 ( checked my friends truck first before checking mine....probably forgot to clear before i checked mine?)

rechecked for codes and got No Codes except for ErR ( i think?)

And im very sorry if my thread is hard to read or understand....im new to this and i have alot going on in my mind....just trying to remember what codes they were and how i could set up this little story

i see, what causes those codes to pop up? theres gotta be sensors right? where are they located at?

I thought P0171 was AFM failure on a Toyota. What kind of truck is it?

and P0443 is normally Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve circuit malfunction

Saw this thread and just had to jack so sorry but uhmm..

I take my car in today to get a 4 wheel alignment done (after noticing some abnormal tire wear, on the sidewall of my front drivers side tire) okay I lie after walking back to car from class and seeing that my tire was completely flat). ::note to self:: whenever you drop a car no matter how low it is always get an alignment done

I get alignment done and new tire for that wheel $205 yay!!!

I hop in car & drive off....CEL light goes off...huh??? ...run check w/scanguage and a P0171 code comes up. I do some research and it apparently means I'm running lean...

I want to take it back to shop but really don't trust them now...

What the hell am I suppose to do? and is there a DIY fix for this?

I wouldn't mind taking it to the dealer, being that my car is still under warranty but I have a few mods done to my car that if Mr. Dealer notices

Mazsport cooling mod
TB mod
JIC ti exhaust

Do these pose any trouble?...Plz help..

IF I were u I would take my Mazsport cooling mod out before taking my car to a dealership.

and whats TB mod ?

Exhaust is not the cause for running lean.

by TB mod I think he means throttle body mod, I have a throttle body space on my car and the when I took my car to the dealer for the transsmission, they said that it was causing a vacum leak and causing my transmission to malfunction. Then I told them the last time I brought my car in you guys said nothing about it.

Sorry....yeah that is throttle body mod...Thanx will change out, plan on taking car up there after classes so we'll see how things go

Whelp just as I suspected.....Well first off the cel just randomly went away earlier today...but I still decide to take it to dealer to get it checked out....I sit for about half an hour.

Here comes Mr. Dealer aroud the corner, "Well Mr. obi you have to many modifications on your car which voids the warranty so it will cost you $110 to run a diagnostic"...(You gotta be outta your flipping mind) ::I'm thinking to myself::

I ask em what mods? and they only void the warranty if that mod is correlated to cel right?

He tells me that is correct but I will have to restore car back to factory for them to do any kind of warranty work...

then he proceeds to hand me a list of all modifications I guess that I need to change: Coolant hose from throttle body cut and removed (TB mod), Aftermarket exhaust (JIC ti), and WTF? vehicle is lowered (tanabe springs and tokicos), and aftermarket gauge pod on dash and plugged into diagnostic port (scanguage II)...

I dont know but cel is gone now & thats all I was really worried about...plan on purchasing a ems here real soon anyway...
