Ok How Much Did They Screw Up???

so i took my car today for a recall this morning. and i needed many other things to be done so here is what i asked for
1- air filter change, i provided the filter.
2- engine oil change
3- emission test
4- transmission oil change, i provided amsoil
5- rear differential change, i provided amsoil
6- radiator flush
6- THERE was a squecky noise on my after market rotors and axxis pads. the one in the fron left, was very noisy when you dont puch the brakes but goes away onece you push the brakes. I PROVIDED front rotos and provided brake pads front and back
----------------------------------------

So Rosenthal Arlington mazda calls me and says
$300.00 labor. only for all pads and two rotors
$200.00 labor for trans oil and diff oil
$100.00 for antifreeze change

Ofcourse i said no for the brakes and no for the trans oil. so the service advisor goes and tells the tech that he should not do the oil trans exchange. But she comes back and tells me that he already started on it. i got pissed, but the advisor was like ok i'll knock of $100.00 for trans oil exchange. thought that was fair so i calmed down.

i went to pick up the car, they slap me with two 2 hours wait and $422.00 dollers. and wrote this
$27.00 for emmission test and $45.00 labor for the test.
$58.00 labor to replace the air filter. thats just wrong.

here is the BIGGEST PROBLEM. I took the car and left the dealer, i felt that there was a BIG GAP in the brake padal, and i thought maybe it was wet brakes. i went 75 MPH and slammed on the brakes, the car fishtaled to the left with grinding noise and a VIOLENT steering shake. i pulled over and saw a deep sharp line in my front Right rotor. i touched that pad with a pen, and guess what it was MOVING.

i am going back tomorrow to the dealership, but what do you think i should ask for? i mean my rotor was ruined completly. do you guys think its fair if i ask them to put the new rotors that i had in the trunk and the new pads free of charge? i mean i saw my life flashing infront of my eyes when the car fishtaled in 395, i totaly did not expect that reaction !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

here is the thing i read on this site that the service maneger is nice unless someone screws up in his team. he even cussed customers out! so what do you guys think i should do? HELP

What EVER possessed you to go 75MPH and slam on your brakes when you thought you had a problem with your brakes

A nice careful try from 10-20 would have been more prudent.

I suppose you would have thought that they were liable if you would have wrecked your car?

It's too bad the dealer sounds like they were trying to gouge you...but you have to take some responsibility for the brake thing.

PS: I'd get someone to check the other work they did as well.......doesn't sound like they had a clue

Wow... If that occured to me, I would raise all hell... Literally I would raise all complete 100% hell... The dealership would most definately be on fire before I leave...

Sounds like you payed alot for a bunch of BS... You should go to the dealership and explain the situation (but in a more safe manner). Say that that day you were driving, had to mash on the brakes and almost flew off the road... Call the service manager a low life unreliable piece of bird sh*t, and demand to have everything fixed for free or else...

Seriously... Or else... If you could start sending e-mails to that specific dealership than start doing it NOW! It's these reasons why I rarely go to dealership's anymore... They cost alot, and most of the time they are runned by idiots that don't know a thing about cars...

I once took my 8 to the dealership and the idiot stalled 2 times in front of me... I walked up to my car and told him if you can't do it correctly then don't do it at all...

sorry if my post didn't help that much... I guess the best you can do is complain... But it sucks non the less that Mazda doesn't even give a **** about customer satisfaction when it comes to 8's...

ok makes sense. To get a full inspection here (new jersey) its either completely free if you go to a DMV center (emission test included) or its about $70 dollars to have a private garage with the proper equipment to perform the same task, BUT that $70 also included every other aspect of the proper state test (tires test, brakes test, lights, etc.)

Also a proper emission test takes less than 10 mins with up to date equipment.

good luck with your ordeal.

they claim that the caliper had a bad pin ( rusty ) thats why the pad was loose in the caliper.

i thought if that was the problem the caliper wont release in stead of wont grip....right? they BSing me correct? wouldn't you guys call this negligence?

Boy they really gouged you. Find a good rotary/Mazda shop in the area. I got a quote of $75 to replace trans and differential around where I love.

The emission test in VA is $28 - labor included. The STATE controls the price. You should not have been charged for labor on an emission test.

VA used to have shops run the emission test on a dyno. The test took 20 minutes and was $28. Now the State allows shops to just look for OBODII error codes in the computer (if your car is so equipped). No codes and no visual problems, the car passes. Labor for this is miniscule. Cost is still $28.

The maneger called me yesterday, he told me how sorry he was about what happened with the brakes. he said that he would put my HP pads that i provided and my two front rotors that i also provided free of charge...... He also said the my caliper in front had failed and that he would replace it under warrenty. (the one that had a loose pad). so i think that kinda fair? dont you think. Although he tried to blame the red paint on the caliper, that he cant cover it under warrenty .... but then when he felt i was getting pissed off; he was like ok a new caliper is on the way.

LESSON LEARNED NO DEALERS FOR ME ANYMORE, mechanic friends are the most experienced. and the best to rely on. Cheaper, Better work and trust worthy. Should there be anything that goes wrong i'll tak it to mazda.

WTF, in the future don't use this dealer again. Plus you should be able to do all that stuff yourself within half a day. Brakes on this car are simple to do if you have a few wrenches, jack and jackstands. As for the diff/tranny it's as easy to change as the engine oil if not easier. Next time get a local member that is mechanically saavy to help you and buy them some dinner or something instead or DIY.

Do a little searching before you ask questions like that.

The transmission and diff both have their own fluids, every once in a while it's good to change them to keep the units in good shape. It's just like changing the oil but no filter. There's a fill and drain hole on the transmission and diff.

i thought it was in reference to changing out the fluids with something that performs better than the stock fluid...something you would or should to right away...no need to bite my head off...

Why didn't you put the air filter in yourself? The other charges seems
reasonable for a dealer. If you're that concerned about money I suggest using
the DIY on this site. It saved me $300 for a SAT install.
