oil pressure gauge

I did a search and to my shock that it seems that the pressure gauge doesn't work?! Is that true?
My question is at what level is considered normal pressure? The needle is around 2/3rd towards H a week ago but now hovers slightly over half.

The gauge is a dummy the equivalent of a idiot light.

While we are at it the temperature gauge is not much better. It has a large dead spot in the center. The temperature has to be really out of the norm for it to move after warm up.

The oil pressure will always hover a little over half way while the temp will always hover just under half. Both are are almost useless except for a major problem.

This is such b$llsh#t to put into a sports car.

The oil pressure shouldn't stay in a constant position. My oil pressure goes from about 17-20 psi at idle to 70-75 psi WOT.

That may well be,but you don't see that on the factory needle in the car. There is no oil pressure transducer on the RX-8,merely a pressure SWITCH.

Its pretty much like an on/off switch, since its just a switch, not a regulator. It will not be able to tell you how much pressure it has.

Solution : Install a REAL gauge
