obd2 connector.. loose?
Does anyone else have trouble with their obd2 port sucking?
Whatever I have hooked up such as the accessport or my obd2 dongle for my carpc is extremely loose... I'm constantly losing the obd2 connection.
I fear that one of these days I'm going to be flashing my ecu and mid-flash the dongle is going to move in any way and the flash is going to be interrupted midway..
any ideas?

The pin on OBD2 port wasn't made for constant removal/installing. so if you "install/reinstall/reinstall" too often, pin might bend/getting weak/or just break.
so u might wanna be careful ...
BUT !!!
you can always replace the connector with a new one
oh btw, did ya find out where did you got those plastic nut for the fender and stuff? u know the ones that you can "twist" in. I wanna buy like 100 of those. damn these Mazda plastic nuts break like crazy. especially in winter

Reviving old thread - my OBD2 port on my RX8 is quite loose, making data logging inconsistent, or not work at all.
I can't find a replacement part on Mazda's parts list, has anyone fixed or replaced these connectors?

How to repair loose OBD2 port
So let me preface this by saying that this maybe should go into the DIY section but this thread comes up in the google search for Loose Obd port.
My OBD port was very loose in my 2004 Rx-8 and I had been putting off fixing it for months but in an effort to run down what was wrong with my powersteering I had to fix it.
First step is to get the port out of the sheet metal bracket
Bracket and Port
So to get the Port out there is two plastic tabs on the sides you need to push in and push the port up to free it from the bracket. I found that pushing the port to one side against the bracket and pushing on the tab on the other side worked to free it.
Here is a picture of the tabs.
At this point you have freed the port and seeing the back side with the wires coming out. Take some pics and write down the color pattern and where the wires are coming out.
There is a white plastic piece that you need to pop out so you can free the wires.
In this Picture you can see the probe pushing the white plastic bracket up so you can remove from the Port so you can free up the individual wires.
The end of the white tab sits under the black tab so you need run your probe underneath to free it.
Next step is to free up the wires and connectors. You need to stick a small probe into the port to push on a small plastic tab to release the wire. when you have pressed the tab correctly
you will feel the wire release. Don't force it.
In the pic above the probe is pointing at the tab, the arrow is pointing about where you need to insert the probe to release the wire.
Once you get the wires free you are going to need to stick your probe into the connectors to rebend the internal tab that makes the connection to the prongs on your OBD2 connector.
So I didn't get a good picture of the connector, hopefully my drawing will show what you need to do.
When you put your probe under the tab you will need to push all the way to the end to get to where the bend in the metal is bend so you can push it up. When your done with each wire push them back into the port carefully. You will feel the terminal click into place, again don't force it. If its not going in a pair of small bent nose pliers can help. Dont let the wire bend near the high crimp because it can split it. The high crimp is where the terminal is attached to the wire and also helps hold it into the obd2 port. I don't think I could have done this with the standard HF probes, which are on the right. The blue ones on the left especially the bent one, which is perfect for fixing the internal tab in the terminal.
These are from Amazon, they work well.
Sorry for the huge pictures my editing skills are lacking, Hopefully this will help people out. What we really need is a part number for the obd2 port and new terminals, as this is really a temporary fix. It is cheap though.
