Newbie with a question

We picked up our new RX8 last week--GT package 6 spd--and are very impressed with the car.

I found the various TSB's on air bags and what not and checked with my dealer on whether the car had recieved the upgrades.
The service mgr. said the airbag was taken care of and the car has the the most recent flash--she didn't say which.

I did the 20 step on the brake pedal while"on" to no avail; the gauge didn't move. Any other ways to see if in fact the car has been reflashed? This is a Aug 03 buildNin 116xxx.

One last thing--the car starts easily when cold, idles well but is does crank for a while when hot on restarts; is that a software issue.
Thanks for any help.

BTW, we have a '99' Boxster that we auto-x with and i have to say this car should be very competative with the Boxster--terrific balance and great brakes.

The step on the brake pedal thing is the definitive test to see if you have the "L" flash. But keep in mind that it's a TAP on the brake and not a "pump" of the pedal. If the needle doesn's sweep, you most likely have an earlier version.

As for the longer crank when the engine is warm, how long are you talking here? 1/2 versus 1 second?

Aug 03 did not have the current flash when built, so would not be current unless reflashed at some point by the dealer.

"L" version came out in Jan/Feb timeframe and now I think it is "M". Either of these should result in the needle sweep when tested. Prior versions do not.

Hot restart crank time..

I'll have to measure it but I'm thinking 2 seconds or so; compared to the cold start which is turn the key and almost instant ignition.

I think I read in a TSB on the Rosenthal site that the documentation should be marked on a decal on the underside of the hood - R/H side. I'd make sure he documented the TSBs somewhere. Unfortunately I picked up my RX8 last month without researching on this site - otherwise I too would have got all this worked without dropping $30K. Now I will get the TSBs and L or M reflash at first checkup - hopefully with no hassle.

Any thoughts on the oil change schedule - the owners manual recommends 7500m for first change for my style driving (like it's stolen). Seems high but the dealer booklet recommended 3750 and others I see have brought it in around 1K?

I just had the M flash put in and he showed me on a graph, just how much shorter the fuel injection pulses are at start/cranking up with this flash. This is suppose to be the answer to much of the flooding issues but like he said, only time will tell. Beta tessting at its finest.
