There are DIY's that include this info.
A carPC DIY would. Or there is one about the complete navigation system.
Go look for one of those, because there are a whole lot of steps and most really need a picture to explain them.
But it basically involves taking the shift boot piece off, the ashtray out, the stereo out, the vents out, then you can take it off.

There are pics out there. I've removed it before. You have to remove the whole head unit, starting at the bottom of the console and work your way up.
Google Mazda RX8 CarPC install DIY and you should find pics and walk throughs.

Its really not that hard man. If you can add 1+1+1 then you should have no problem doing this. I know it looks intimidating because it is so well put together, but after youve taken this car apart a couple of times, you realize its just like every other car. Just make sure you pull up on the shifter piece as straight as possible. Makes for undoing the latches much easier. As soon as you have the shifter plate off, you see the screws for the ash tray. Remove those and the ash tray slides out, revealing the screws for the radio! Remove those screws and unclip the harness' and guess what, it reveals the screws the vent! Remove those screws, slide the vent out, and then....YES, it reveals the screws for the center piece!!! Remove those, and unclip the 3 or 4 clips and your golden.

you have to start from the center console/shifter and work up.......the radio has to come out as well but DO NOT forget to remove the "jesus" bolt......you will understand the terminology when you get to it because it is way back behind the radio cradle.....if you just yank your radio out without removing that bolt you can say goodbye to your radio and hvac......if you done it a few times it might take you 30-45 minutes.....first time is tough though

just fyi, you don't have to pull the radio out entirely, nor undo any of the harness going to it. you can just slide the radio out far enough to get at the 2 vent screws. i guess it's not a big deal but for me the hvac harness clips were the toughest to get out for some reason...
pretty funny about that jesus bolt... i am debating on leaving it out for my own convenience or putting it back to screw any future thieves

The air vents should have 2 screw once u take them out use extra force and they will pop out! Pull it straight toward u! Then there are 2 more screws attaching the top unscrew them and pull the center up it won't break it will pop out! There is a YouTube video on it aswell
I did my gauges last night came out very nice!
