newb with cat converter problems

so i bought my first 8 a few months ago from a private dealership '05, 41k, AT. and shortly after i have been getting the smell of exhaust fumes inside the car. did some research and found that the culprit could be the cat converter being clogged. now my car is stalling, rattling noise in the engine, and no airflowing out of the exhaust. and to top it all off one of the sensors is now dangling underneath.

took it to the muffler shop and they said this car requires a specific cat that will have to be special ordered, but its not guaranteed to fix the problem.

i just want the car to be running again. could there be any other problem thats causing this? and if it is the cat, where can i find this california-legal cat other than the stealership? and will redlining the car help clear the cat or just cause more damage to the engine?

any help will be greatly appreciated

Go to a Mazda dealership and get a new cat for free, it's covered under the federal emissions warranty for 80k miles.

I would also avoid dealing with that muffler shop for anything in the future. They should have known that the cat is covered by Mazda.

Also...you're still covered by the 8 year, 100k engine core warranty, should anything catastrophic happen to the engine. Mazda warranties stay with the car, no action is needed for them to transfer to a new owner.
