New starter motor, K&N, grills
Hiya, yes i know this kind of post has been posted before. But it will be good to get another opinion on the motor and K&N.
From the day i got my car it took a while to start up from cold. So a quick phone call to Mazda revealed they would put new spark plugs and starter motor in for free! so I had that done, and wow! it starts almost immediately and sounds totaly different too. Also the car definately now feels a bit more responsive.
After this i purchased a K&N panel filter. I can honestly say im a bit dissapointed, I was expecting more... It sounds no different only untill you hit around 6k RPM. Perfmance gains are minimal. BUT, for £30 and getting more miles out of my tank, hey I cant complain.
Now I have fitted all the Racing beet screens, Took just under an hour to get the bumper off for the 1st time. About 5 minutes to get the oil and a/c screen in. But the big one was a pain and a half, very awkward to get too and of course took about 30min just to get 1 stupid bolt out that some how got stuck. But looks great now in the front bumper!

There are some claims that some of the K&N oil can accumulate on the MAF sensor and cause it to become fouled more quickly. Check for threads on how to clean the MAF sensor, and you might want to inspect the sensor as a part of regular maintenance.
I ran a K&N on my Miata for most of its 150,000 miles. In the end it wasn't worth it. Washing, drying and re-oiling the filter is messy and time-consuming compared to popping in a fresh paper filter. You have to keep the cleaner and filter oil on-hand, etc. And a couple of horsepower (even if true) aren't noticeable.
