Unhappy Name that Broken Vacuum line!

So, I went out to install my coil kit today and while puzzling over how to take the air box and accordion tube out, I noticed something bad. I have a broken vacuum line. Can anyone tell me what this one does? I plugged the broken end and it pulled something of a vacuum on my finger. I couldn't really feel it, but when I pulled my finger away i could hear the hiss of air being sucked in.

It's an intake leak...not really a vac leak ( before the TB) It's either the jet air, crankcase vent or the OMP lines...can't remember which is the lower one.

If you need the elbow...find someone local with an intake or turbo..they will have that lying around. I have 6..you can have one if you want, but it would be a lot faster getting one local

i had mines slip off before (K&N Typhoon) and it made a whistling sound. but looks like in your case. you can just go the hardware store and get a fitting of some sort and just stick it where the plastic would go between the hose and the intake tube.

Top one is MOP air line
Middle one is Jet Air Line

That one is the Vent line to "crankcase"

Now's your chance to install a catch-can. Or plug it and run a breather filter off your oil filter neck.

same thing happened to me when changing my plugs and wires. Those elbows get fragile over time, need to be careful next time.

I went to my dealership's parts department and got a replacement piece for $12. Ripoff for a tiny piece of plastic but more piece of mind to get it fixed right away.

I wish i had even gotten to the wires and plugs! I found it like that when I popped the hood. Must have busted it while working on my stereo a while back and never noticed.

Max5, The breather isn't needed on 07's like mine. mazda re-routed the overflow deep into the intake manifold now, rather then having it dump behind the air filter. This is a different hose from the one people put an oil catch can on.

Guess I'm gonna have to get a fitting from Kragen or something. Mazda wants 10 bucks and 2 days for it. Yeah right. Ain't nothing special about a 3/8th inch barb elbow connector.

Might just get these in advance since I know they're going to break eventually.

Now I'm going to have to check mine. It sounds like I have an air leak in the engine bay but I wasn't sure if it was a normal whistle or not. I'm guessing probably not.

NO.....

that's about the worst thing you can do.

you mean you want the pressure to rise from oil in the crankcase cooking off and evaporating in the engine bay making things oily, rather than having the oil vapors make its way into the intake lubricating moving parts in the intake???

i wouldn't recommend parts that aid in breaking one's car rather than improve performance or function.
