My Engine is Burning Too Rich? Help!

I just finished an exhaust and intake tune and my local shop told me that my fuel/air ratio is too rich. How can I fix this? Thx.

by a a plug and play piggyback system like the Cazoomer unit(go to the vendors section and read thru the Canzoomer forum) or get an E-manage unit and let the shop do the tuning if they are capable. read MazdaManiac's posts about the E-manage. Also what is the build date of your car? do you know about the M-flash for your car's PCM?

Cool Pig rich....

Yup.

Anyone who does any work on your exhaust system should be able to spot THAT problem pretty quick!

The fix, however, is not so simple.....

my car's build date it may 03 and i don't know anything about the m-flash. I don't have enough $$ for the canzoomer right now. Is there a cheaper way the fix the problem (ie. spark plugs, wires, etc.) It doesn't have to 100% fix the problem but just neutralize it until I get the dough for a piggyback system.

may 03? are you in the US or in Japan? in the states you would need to go get your car's PCM updated to the newest software version. called a "flash" the current newest version is "M". in Japan i don't know what they call it. either way it sounds like a trip to your service deptartment is in order. ask for the newest PCM update.

I am actually in Canada but I think my dealership did do something with the ecu of my car. I had a problem with my engine warning light turning on if I start and stop the engine without letting it warm up. The service guy just told me that it was a computer problem and I need a new software installed or something. Is this the same deal as the "flash" you're talking about?

Hmmm good question I don't know the exact date anymore but it was last winter. Nov or Dec most likely.

yes that is a flash. the next time you have it in for service(or sooner if you want to push them) get tehm to flash it to the newest version. the one you are on is definetly a level or 2 behind. the newest M version helps lean out the mix.

Thank for your help! I last Q. Will the dealership reflash the comp for you no questions asked or is it part of your warranty service? Cuz I don't want them to blame it on my aftermarket parts and screw me over.

This is a PCM "update" ... it shouldn't be a problem however I would still suggest check the forum here to see if anyone has had any issues
