Many people here extolled the virtue of changing the oil at 500 miles to help break in the engine. I changed mine at 500, then 1500, and finally once more at 3000. I'm now changing in between Dealership servicing. 7000 miles between oil changes is too far IMO, plus it's fun to jack up the car and "work" on it.
