My car unlocks by itself !

Hi, I have a problem with my electric locking system and I haven’t find any other thread in this forum about my specific problem.

When I lock the car with my remote or with the switch in the driver’s door the car locks and the lights flashes once. Since now, all is normal. After that, if I try to open the door with the handle I found my car locked but after 2 or three times I pull the handle the following thing happens: the lights flashes twice and the car unlocks by itself just as if I have unlocked it with the remote… It does that almost everyday and sometimes even if I don’t touch the handle. I never forget to lock my car and many times I find my 8 unlocked in the parking.

Do you have any idea of what is the source of this problem?

Thanks

What happens if you try and do it and leave your keycard in the house or something?

I have the opposite thing happen on my 04GT. My doors lock automatically after a couple minutes. Probably a good thing with guys like amdhunter on the prowl.

There is a setting for the gt so your car will autolock when you walk away.

My car keeps unlocking by itself even if the key and remote is not near the car. Is there any setting on the locking system that we could work with?

Is there a possibility of a bad ground that can cause the problem or something like that ?

Each time I leave the car I lock it and pull the handle several times to see if it will unlocks. Sometimes it took like 8 times before it unlocks and other times nothing happens after 10 to 15 pull so I assume this time the doors are locked correctly…the car also unlocks if I push several times on the LOCK button on the remote… sometimes it will horn on the third push sometimes not…

I’d rather like the car locks by itself!

I was about to suggest that you pull the keyless entry fuse and see how that goes; that way until you find a better solution, it wont automatically unlock.

It's not like someones pulling your leg and unlocking it and their hiding in your glove box or something, so I think it's safe to assume it's an electrical issue; just pull the fuse from your drivers side fuse box!

My keyless remote wasn't working last time I blew one of those fuses; I forgot which one diagram should be on the cover

EDIT:

It's one of the fuses that has a spare fuse on the side! I remember not having to buy a new fuse

Does your 8 morph into a red 1958 Plymouth when it gets dark?
Have your neighbour's children, wanted for prior car burglary; went missing recently?

Also; Can you account for both key fobs; is someone messing with you?

Sounds like the auto lock feature gets confused, butt... either way the car should never unlock just by pulling on the handle.

Are you the original owner? No aftermarket alarm or accessories hooked up?

Your probably going to have to do process of elimination. Looking at a factory wiring diagram, I would remove the room fuse first. Youll lose some functions in the car but your just testing. Go for a couple days and see if the car unlocks by itself. Removing the room fuse takes power away from the keyless receiver (the other option is to disconnect just the keyless receiver but the fuse is faster/easier).

Still unlocking by itself? Then it's not the receiver, put the fuse back in. Next, I would try the inside power door lock switches both sides. Any of them sticking? Disconnect each and lock the car. Still unlocking by itself? Then I'd go for the door key & trunk key cylinders. Disconnect the wiring for those and check. These give signal to the keyless module to unlock the car too. Still unlocking.....you most likely have a bad keyless module. You cant just swap these, youll have to have it programmed to your car by the dealer.

Keep us posted.

No I'm not the original owner but there is no aftermarket stuff on my car.

I will try what you told me and I'll keep you informed of what happened!

I'll begin with the ROOM fuse step but if this doesn't work, where do I unplug the inside powerdoor locks without opening the inside door panel? Same question for the key cylinders...

Thank you
