Low Beam Headlight Replacement

Hi guys. I've seen the DIY's on the NON-Xenon headlight removals, but I have an 04 RX8 Grand Touring which has the HID Xenons. In the manual it says Mazda must change these? Is that true? Or is there a bulb that I can buy and install myself? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Go for it. Just unhook the battery. And be gentle.

It's like working on the high voltage section of a TV. There are lethal voltages present when it's on. Targatheory's advice sounds good.

You can buy the bulbs. They're not cheap...just shop around on line. If there isn't a DIY here, you should be able to find a generic DIY and info on line.

New info: I just looked on Amazon. They have Sylvania D2S's for $43.75. I retract the "not cheap." Last time I got curious about these things, the price was several times that. Mazda probably marks them up the way they mark up spark plugs.

Or if you dont want to do that and lose your radio stations etc, just remove the fuse for the main headlight relay and the fuses for each headlamp. Located in the fuse box under the hood.

True, TCS guys gotta remember to do the steering wheel thing and depending on where you live you could have some rough idles after a disconnect due to the car re-learning fuel trims. Just offering an alternative
