MT 5mph cruise control
MT 5mph cruise control
In slow moving traffic you can cruise at 5 mph. I let off the gas and clutch to see how close it would come to stalling but it never did and ran normal. I'm not sure if all MT cars can do this but my Protege could as well.
i dont know ho it didnt. think about when you have to do the first gear clutch work.
you let off the clutch and press the gas. if you dont, then the car shuts off. so i cant imagin a mt having both gas and clutch with no pressure and it still work at 5 mph.

Mine cruises at 5 mph without bucking... just have to be gentle when you let off the clutch and gas. I do that when I'm stuck in Friday afternoon traffic. Also works in 2nd gear at around 13 mph if you're gentle.

I can launch mine off the idle (no gas pedal) and it will just glide along from there on the idle setting

I just taught my GF's 15 yr old daughter to launch a manual this way using an RX-8. Makes it much easier for her to get the clutch feel first before also learning how to manipulate the gas simultaneously. She ran her first autox, which was also her first real driving experience, the following day. She still stalled it a few times but she picked it up fast overall.

yeah, thats the first thing i did to teach myself on a MT, go to a parking lot and get the car moving without touching the gas. i'll try cruising at 5 on my way home and see what happens
I found that its harder when your revs are going down, then my car bucks. Note that if I where going up to the same number of revs or keeping it steady then it would NOT buck.

Wow! I tried it out tonight and it worked. 5mph crawl in 1st and 7 in 2nd. I was always worried that the car would buck and then die so I never went that low without clutch at least partially in. Good find
Isn't it quite hard on the clutch to hold it in the position where you slightly move forward (half engaged)? I suppose for learning purposes only but it shpouldn't ever be used to not roll back on a hill/inch forward/etc. This is what I was taught at least...
Let the clutch out, the car wont die. It will buck (mine does) when slowing down at first, but once you reach the 5mph it will idle fine.
