Question Mod question from a new RX-8 Owner

Hello everyone!

I purchased an '08 RX-8 40th anniversary edition a few weeks ago, and I'm loving it. I'm extremely pleased with the aesthetics of the car, but I would really like to hear the engine a bit more. I don't want the sound to be obnoxiously overpowering and I would prefer a more throaty sound (I've been looking at the RE-Amemiya products).

I also wondered what performance upgrades people would recommend.

Thanks for the info!

-Jason

AFE short shifter, Mazsport ignition, RB Flash or cobb accessport, midpipe or supercat, exhaust, revi intake

TIRES, AFE Short Shifter, Springs, Sways, and Shocks. Exhaust if you want more noise.

Cobb AP for the best bang for your buck at $700 for performance. Exhaust since you mention you want a better tone. AFE SS for precise shifting.

Thanks!

Very cool, thanks to everyone who's responded. This will definitely point me in the right direction, but I still welcome any other input people have!

Thanks,
-Jason

Borla might be what you're looking for in terms of an exhaust. It's pretty quiet on idle but gives you a little more throat at high RPMs.

There's also the HKS Legamax which I think most people considere a little more aggressive sounding:

Once you get the noise you like your best street-performance upgrade is tires. A short shifter is nice and if you want a barely noticeable but minor HP upgrade you should look at the RB intake.

Plenty of opinions and threads floating around on all counts. Once you have a basic idea what you want search on it to make sure.

RufusVonStorm and kristopher_d just about nailed it on the head in the 2nd and 3rd posts.
I had the AEM and RB Revi intake installed on my car and I would have to say that you could hear the engine more with the AEM (RB even advertises only a 2-3Db gain over stock).
Far as exhausts, do a YouTube search and listen to whats out there. Best thing you can do is find people locally who have aftermarket components and listen to them live.
But as it was noted, for performance (without going FI) look into Cobb Accessport, midpipe/high flow cat, Mazsport Ignition Solution, lighter flywheel
Just my 2 cents.

Will do, thanks again to everyone for their input! I definitely think the Cobb AccessPort would probably be the first logical investment for me. I guess if I ever need to have service done, I can just revert it back to factory. Looks like I'm going to be dropping some cash . Thanks again!
