Mileage Problem

HI,

I bought a new 2006 Automatic transmission RX8 last week. I feel the mileage is too less. I filled the tank and half the tank is empty within 95 miles. Will the dealer do something to improve the mileage.

Can anyone please let me know the reason for this low mileage ? Will delaer do something about this.

hi aprakash - no one has ever asked that question before .......

Seriously - there are plenty of threads on here talking about that so have a good look around & come back with another question if you can't find what you are looking for

You will notice that the fuel gauge will stay on half for a while. Don't fret my friend. Did you check the mileage after filling it?

Divide the number of miles by how many gallons were put into the tank.

Run a few tanks and get back to us on if it is normal or not.

I'm usually around half a tank after 100 miles. Unfortunately this is rather normal in most cases. Most of the people you talk to around here get less than sticker gas mileage.

Run a quick search. You won't like what you find.

You might get 1-2mpg better when the engine finally breaks in, but for city driving I usually get 100-125 miles from full to half tank. With engine warm up time this time of year and gas station using their "winter" mixes, you seem like you're a the normal range.

Wow--where do we start with educating this fellow?

Please look through the structure of this forum to learn what type of information is likely to be found in the sub-forums. Then go to the sub-forum and browse through the contents page or use the Search ("Search this forum" on the upper right) and appropriate keywords to point you to some good threads.

Study your owner manual. Read your warranty very carefully. Some dealers are very supportive and helpful with warranty issues; others are not. (There is even a sub-forum to help with finding a good one, avoiding the bad ones).

Don't even think about a mileage malfunction until you have driven through several fill-ups, keeping careful mileage records and calculating miles per gallon (not miles per half-tank).

"Normal" mileage ranges from 10 or 12 mpg up to over 20, depending on type of driving and driving style.

Your dealer (even a "good" one) will be happy to chuckle slightly and wave good-bye if you approach him about "doing something" at this point.

I quit looking at the gas guage long ago...... Just fill up when the light comes on. Of course my commute is only 3 miles so a tank lasts me awhile regardless.

Considering the enlightened discussion that has been occuring on other threads on this forum regarding harsh, unjustified responces to new members questions, I was forced to reflect on my initial responce. Originally, I was going to post a highly critical reply that only hinted at the opprobrium I felt towards the OP and may have gone on to suggest that the OP's female parental unit has considerable canine genetic make-up. Having reconsidered, I felt the more mature responce would be to simply suggest that the OP please learn to use the search button and until then STFU n00b!

I have some information that may be useful to you:

With conservative driving, performing 5 minute warmup twice daily, redlining twice daily, accelerating only when needed to merge safely, trying to keep rpms 3000 - 3500 rpm, with a clean air filter, and a clean MAF, using 91 Chevron gas, and thorough use of engine braking at every downhill opportunity:

1st quarter tank: 40 miles
2nd quarter tank: 88.4 miles
3rd quarter tank: 144.5 miles
4th quarter tank: ??? (never driven to empty)

Carrying a driver weighing 145 pounds with clothes on, plus a backpack around 25 pounds, plus two 12 oz spray bottles with liquid, 1 car cover, several CDs, two sun visors, 1 roll of paper towels, 1 squeegee, and 4 microfiber rags. With tire pressure between 32.5 max and 31 psi minimum. With outdoor temperature between 45 and 65. Plus the added weight of the sunroof option and spoiler.

With highway driving, I'm getting around 145 for the first half tank and running about 15mins after the light comes on I get somewhere around 325 total! I was getting around 280 per tank with my first engine...I'd have to say thihs one is much more gas efficient. But who really cares how much gas it guzzles?!?!?!

Thanks EVeryone except Carbonrx8, NYCGPS for your responses and answering my question.

Carbonrx8, NYCGPS
I am not having a ferrari to be satisfied with 10 or 11mpg. Thats the reason I had this question here. Moreover I am not workless just like you guys going thru all the threads, I am busy and when I search the forum for "gas mileage" it gives me 100 of threads and I cannot go thru each and every thread looking for the answer i need.

NYCGPS, I think u are a real idiot if you are satisfied with 11MPG for a MAzda. Dude you are not having a ferrari or hummer or some high end asHo.. you jus own a RX8 which must give atleast 15mpg which is already 3mpg less than stickered.

If your car gives jus 10 or 11 go trade it in for a prius..Guess you will be brilliant atleast after that.

Rest of the members, Thanks much for your valuable reply and time. Thanks lot for saving my time.

Wow! I am happy I responded...

Workless?!

Mazda didn't just give us these cars (unless Leno is on here ).

The mileage threads are plentiful so it should be easy to find the answer with a little extrapolation from all the info. You get what you put in. Thanks for another one so people have to wade through this thread as well...

Workless!?

Sadly, some of us members didn't go over our heads financially when buying our 8s so we have more FREE time to search.

Hi aprakash,

It was 170 miles out of my last tank untill the light came on. Guess its common with RX8. I know it sucks. Stop thinking about it and enjoy the drive. Overall its fun to Drive except mileage.

According to your *Wonderfully Smart Logic*, does that mean every car out there should get at least Mpg like Prius or close enough to it ??

You believe in EPA's Sticker? You're already an idiot, right there. Yep.

In your words, *you jus own a RX8 which must give at least 15 mpg which is already 3 mpg less than stickered.*

You jus(t) own ? You dont deserve this car, Like I said, sell it, get yourself a Corolla or something. Oh wait, Corolla cant do what the EPA sticker saids so .... Damn actually none of the cars could, maybe its time for you to get yourself a Bicycle ?

This is an excellent example of an idiot who did not do his/her homework before his/her car shopping. oh yes he/she is an idiot. you got me.

For your reference, I got 200 miles outa my last tank, thats with about 150 miles of pure high way driving (nothing slower than 55, Max ___)

Still nowhere near Prius .... hmm ........ My car is broken, wheres my dealership number again? I gotta call and complain so they can laugh at my *** !
