Mazda put all leading plugs in my RX8, Mazsport gave me all trailing plugsWTF?!

I changed my plugs over the weekend, easy job by the way.66k miles on stock plugs, look brown in color but never had any mishaps or hickups just in the last
10k miles i started to notice a very ruff idle would start when i came to a stop.

On the first rotor , took out the leading plug, then took out the trailing plug and was like ok.... there was a leading plug in place of where the tailing went. Same thing on the second rotor .... Mazda used all Leading sparkplugs.

I got my plugs through Mazsport and there brand of wires . Come to find out Betsy gave me all trailing plugs, I figured if Mazda could use all leading plugs , what would be the diffrence if I used all trailing. Installed the plugs and the wires.

Results: Car starts up on a dime now, butter smooth idle, strong mid to high end punch and i can chirp the tires in 3rd gear again , car feels more responsive to the gas pedal. Its my third day with them in , i ran it on the highway today and the car felt very strong when dropping gear to pass. Slightly better gas milage, was pretty heavy on the gas pedal today so i don't know for sure.

My question to you guys, is it safe to run all trailing , or should i replace the two back to leading?

The Mazsport plugs are NGK RX-7 trailing plugs with shims to work for the RX-8 turbo applications.....I assume that you have a turbo??

Having Mazda stick leading plugs in your trailing position is a very bad thing.
Having MazSport give you all trailing plugs is a very good thing.

I'd be pretty pissed at the dealer that did your work. What was the part number on the plugs you just removed?

Worst case is the plugs might foul a bit sooner than normal - especially if you do a lot of city driving without "wringing it out" regularly.

Why is this a very good thing? What benefits does one see from using all trailing plugs?

Why's that? I run BUR-9EQs all around on my n/a RX-7. I always have. Works fine.

Nah I use my RX-8 for highway driving mostly , so she gets winded out daily!
For all the mis-information about how rotaries blow up at 30k, you will need a new engine at 50k , there maitnance nightmares , my RX-8 has been the most reliable car i owned out of my 15 cars that i owned including gas sipping civics.

66k miles on my first set of plugs and wires,is pretty danm good. Never flooded, never had electrical problems that my Beemer gave me, never had any mechanical problems that Mustang gave me. I am very impressed with this car, I will definitely be getting another rotary in the future!
