Mazda dealer has no tool to fix grind into 4th gear...

I have posted this in the general discussion forum, but I just want to get a more accurate idea: is it possible that a large Mazda dealer do not have the "special" tool needed to fix a transmission problem? What special tool is needed really?

Below is my original post....
My 8 began to grind WHENEVER I shift into 4th gear above 4k RPM, even when I was granny shifting. It grinds from time to time when shifted between 2.5K - 4K rpm (without granny shifting that is).

After a quick search, I figured that synchro may have gone bad so I took it into dealer for a look, the dealer was able to verify the problem but was saying that they do not have the tools required to fix the problem (it is a large dealer btw). Here is what I get:

"CUSTOMER STATES GEAR GRIND WHEN SHIFTING INTO 4TH GEAR, ALWAYS HAPPEN AT 4000RPM. VERIFIED COMPLAINT. NOISE IS INTERNAL IN TRANSMISSION. SPECIAL TOOL NEEDED FOR NOISE WHICH DEALER DOES NOT HAVE. RECOMMEND CUSTOMER GOES TO ANOTHER DEALER FOR THIS REPAIR"

Now question is: could this even be possible? I called another dealer and describe what happened, the service guy answering the phone basically was implying that it is quite impossible that the first dealer does not have the tool to do the job and was just BS me to do the warranty repair somewhere else...What do you think?

Also, the second dealer is saying that if there is indeed something wrong with the transmission, it would take a day or two to get the repair done and the rental car cost would not be covered by warranty...I am still under B2B warranty. Is that true? true?

thats funny, may just be the transmission guy if they have one is on holiday. Ive had my transmission fixed by both the local dealers here. The hardest part was making them admit it was a problem.

as for special tool not sure mazda has alot of special tools for donig things from taking suspension and etc

If they are recommending you bring it to another dealer, they better be offering a flatbed truck along with it.

i wish that could have happened...they just ask me to drive off and contact other dealers...not even bother to refer the problem...

and i am told by the second dealer that if car is staying overnight, i would have to pay for rental myself...even with B2B warranty?

talk about customer satisfaction... i guess my best bet is call MNAO and see what they have to say about this.

Call MNAO anyways on the first dealer, make sure to say that the dealer didn't provide any repairs, assistance, or the truck to get to a second dealer. Don't say anything beyond that; when it gets documented and you find further damage to the transmission in the future, you can refer to this.

I'm unsure if the B2B would cover a rental, however. Sorry if I am no help on that.

If the car is still under warranty then the dealership has NO choice but to supply the rental. I am currently having my synchros replaced, having the same issue in 5th gear on my 09. As for not having a specialty too they are full of S*#t. Since the decided to pass the buck to another dealership I would get in contact with the manager and explain the situation and have then contact another dealership on your behalf. As I stated if they do not abide by the warranty then 1. They need to show you in writing. Or they have the option to talk to your lawyer. As you can tell when it comes to being BS'ed I am the biggest a$$H*&E.

Sorry if i sound pissed off just hate to see people get screwed around by fricken idiots.

i think that is pretty lame excuse too, i just dont understand why he has the gut to put this in writing...wouldn't that be the dumbest thing to do if you are trying to screw your customer...

anyway, i have no worry about this thing getting documented, since i have all this documented on my service record, i am just a little bit unsure about the rental thing since i usually just wait in...anyway, i am calling MNAO after getting off work.

just got off phone with MNAO, the operator seems nice and is taking care of the case. told me that they will contact the dealers about this and get back to me tomorrow.

also, confirmed with MNAO that rental car is definitely covered if warranty repair takes more than 4 hours. this is for B2B warranty, wondering what is the case if there is only tranny warranty/engine warranty left...maybe i will ask tomorrow.

thanks for all the advice... will keep you guys posted

That utter BS. no tools to repair it ?

They can always load their computer up and order the right tool.

Its more like they know they dont have anybody there that can "Fix this correctly" so they just found a lame & easy way out ------ We dont have the tools, go somewhere else.

As for Rental, its only if you're under b2b warranty. anything after that, well, if you're still within powertrain warranty then you might be able to get a rental outa MNAO.

The Transmission itself is mostly "ok", Its not meant for you to "beat the crap out of it." I dunno what Aisin was thinking tho, they could've made something like the FD or FC transmission. Maybe Mazda went cheap on parts ?

one of the biggest problem came from a weak clutch pedal, when it gets weak, it will not be shifted correctly. And causing extra Wear.

the dealer that gave me the "no tool" BS is actually a very large dealer, and somehow they have very decent ratings. i cannot image they have no one capable of doing the job, maybe the guy is on vacation? lol

It is true that there are special tools for this transmission for certain jobs(to replace certain gear)

but an experienced Transmission tech might be able to get away without it so ... yeah it could be the person doing this type of job is on vacation or got fired/left the place.

ok, just to keep you guys posted: MNAO got back to me after they called the dealership manager. The reason for the lacking of tools they provided is that they are tearing the dealership down for remodeling, so they don't have all tools around...

anyways, MNAO took over and handled the situation very nicely. i am happy with MNAO on this and i am not going to doubt whether or not they are actually remodeling the dealership...lol
