Mazda dealer got my engine bay on fire......

So my mechanic took the mazda last month trying to get it hooked up to the computer and while they where troubleshooting something they got a small section of my engine bay on fire, its not too much but about 3 things need to be replace since 1 is melted a bit and the others one are not like they where before the fire.

Im going after I take a nap been working all night. Im not wrong by saying they have to replace it right? I have all the right to get this replaced?

Anyone have this issue? What have you ask/demand from them and what has mazda come back with? What should I expect?

well, considering those parts were fine before you took the car in for servicing, one would imagine that if they cause damage to the vehicle they have to repair it out of their pockets. i had a simmilar incident on my last car; jiffylube did an transmission flush when it wasnt needed, broke the transmission, and when the went to move the car before they knew the transmission was locked up they blew a seal on the engine. they didnt want to pay for damages and repairs, but our lawyer quickly got that taken care of.
then when they didnt want to pay after a judge ruled in out favor, our lawyer called police who went with us to that location and when we arrived he shut them down with a cease and assist order, and they couldnt do anything till we got the money we were due for repairs, work hours taken off, court fees, everything.

long story short, they break it they fix it.

The dealership should address everything damaged, and return your car to you as if nothing had happened. That means it should be in perfect.

They promote their techs as Mazda trained and certified, and are held to a higher standard.

Consider giving Mazda's head office a call and ask them what they think about one of their dealerships setting a customers cars on fire.

The dealership should fix their mistake, and you shouldn't pay for it.

How did you find out in the first place? Did they phone you and tell you? And what was it in for? What were they trying to fix?

That dealership is just trying to protect themselves from the corporate bosses...

Anyway, are they going to fix their mistake without you making payments on that issue? Good luck and keep complaining if they deny their mistakes.

we took it in cause at the time we didnt know that the issue was atkins seals we used. So he took it in to get it hooked up to the computer to see what was going on.

My mechanic saw it when he went to pick the car up. The engine bay was all black full of ash. I just emailed the guy I spoke with from Mazda telling him to call back and talk to the person that actually worked on the car not the managers. And if they come with the same story that I would contact a lawyer and local newspaper. I rather have the parts and put them myself its not much but if they keep it on ill get super picky, anything black from the fire will need to be replaced lol.

I went to my insurance and they will go after the dealer. So I dont have to do anything else. This friday a adjuster will come and check the car. I told them I wanted the check and I would do they work not any shop. Now I need a engine bay diagram to check part prices. Anyone know where to get one online?

Foxed.ca - Mazda RX-7 Manuals

Ignore the part about RX-7 ... there's an anchor that'll take you directly to the RX-8 manuals... including the parts catalog that has a bunch of pictures of the engine bay.

OP, while I am sorry to hear about your issue with the DEALER, why did you ring "corporate", I guess you mean MNAO (Distribution) first.

You really went about this the wrong way....

Spoke to corporate. They called the dealer and they said no fire happened when they had the car. So mad I'm going over tomorrow and talk to them in person.
YES, take car back to the Mazda Dealer, find out how and what they are prepared to do to rectify damage to get it back to how it was when car first went in.(physically).

THEN, if you are getting nowhere contact MNAO and report their private Dealer...not before, give the Dealer a chance to fix it.

I don't know why people assume that another company would know everything that was done to your car, even after a phone call.

Good luck, but without pics and locations we can't do much more to help.

There is no "engine bay diagram" that has everything listed in one spot (part number wise)..
Again more details are needed and pics.

I have had many bad dealings with dealerships. In one case the issue put my life in danger. MNAO has never gave me a hand when asked.

UPDATE:

Ok so I had my reasons for not going to the dealer. I had some issues there before buying parts and when my mechanic got there they where trying to close the hood asap so he would not see it and when he asked they gave him the run around.

I spoke to my insurance and they will go after for everything including my deductible.

So ill get a check and will replace it all myself.
