As for now - I see no problem with charging the battery overnight then restart car. If it starts - I would get it to dealer and report issue. If they do the plugs-battery-starter under warranty - problem solved. If they say it's just the battery - I would get Optima battery. If it does not start with re-charged battery - I would call Mazda Roadside.
That would be my move.

Anyone have any recommendations on good, reliable chargers that cost a reasonable amount of money? (Yes, I will search as well).

More on topic with the thread.
The TSB should be out this week about the secondary PDI. Mazda will require dealers to recheck the vehicle and install new plugs within one week of retail delivery.

just got a used rx8 with barely 30k miles on it. i am driving it for like 1 week now (logged 260 miles since i got it). it worries me to buy a used car but having seen and drove this car made me change my mind. now, to make it more 'un-problematic' (if there's such a word) and being pro-active, would it be a good idea to go to a mazda dealer and ask them to change battery, splugs, etc? im just worried that this car will just not run or give me problems (e.g. flooding) in the near future. would they charge me? or look into the car and assess (if the dealer will cover for the fix/repair/change)? i believe in the prevention is the best maintenance sort of thing. any idea how much this will cost? thanks.

Well it turns out that I did have my trunk popped (must have hit the button on the key fob by accident without knowing), which caused the battery to go.
I used my wife's MPV to boost it, and it fired right up. Took it out for a decent drive to try and get some charge back, so I hope next time I start the car up everything will be ok.
I just wanted to report my findings so that nobody gets a false impression that there is a reliability issue with the car. This was operator "error" folks. They should have a timer on that trunk light (or a switch).
I think I will still plan to address the weak battery TSB, though. Thanks everyone for all the information.

Glad all is well. But do the TSB and consider a trickle charger. Have a great day.
