MANUAL Transmission swap, Series 2 in a Series 1

Listen...you smell that?
I've been watching ebay for awhile, nothing there. I'll try carparts next. If I can;'t find a used on I may just go with the Axial SS in the end.
This is what I mean: 17-510
Well, I guess I kinda answered my own question...After further review it looks like part # P610-17-510B includes everything one would need, minus the bushing.

I checked, the Miata shifter part # is different (M529-17-510A) and costs about half of what the S2 shifter does. But if the both share the same transmission, maybe the Miata shifter is shorter? Cheap SS kit anyone?!

I don't think they shar the same trans but they do both bolt up. I was talking about getting the whole trans from the junk yard. I got mine complete with shifter and throw out bearing and fork and bell housing for $1200 shipped. It only had 18,000 miles on it.

Yikes! I have the trans already (50k mi), managed to find it for $400 local but sans the shifter unfortunately.
Contacted Mazmart to see what he had, I'll try a WTB add but seems like hardly any S2 parts/partouts come up at all.

you're rebuilding a rotary engine, but are stumped by a simple on/off 2-wire sensor connector rewiring? Wtf ..
I had an extra pair of old S1 switches, snipped the connectors with wires off of them, and replaced them on the S2 sensors with another set of simple snap-plug connectors. This allows me to plug it into my S1 harness, swap in an S1 trans in an emergency, or install snap-plug connectors on replacement S2 sensors and plug them in without any issue ...

P610-17-510D is S2 RX-8 6 speed shifter
M529 is NC 5 speed.

So in the end you wind up with the S2 end of the neutral/reverse connectors with snap plugs leading to the S1 harness? What do you do about water/dirt? I would love to see a pic of the end result.

Not in P66M they (2) are almost identical.....the P part number ones.
Smutter in post says he was "searching" for a NC Miata shifter, he came up with a M529-17-510A, which is incorrect for any 6 Speed P66M trans.....does he not have an S2 P66M trans??..
NC's is USA (NA) have 5 and 6 speed Transmissions, totally different.

If you read thd thread progress. It was because I (mistakenly) suggested that S2 and NC 6-spd shifters might be interchangeable. After I looked at the NC 6-spd parts diagram it seemed obvious they are not. So the NC shifter discussion became irrelevant after this was realized.

Gonna give the neutral/reverse wiring a try today, thought this would be a good spot to link this "How to" for my fellow noobs out there!
