M flash vs L flash

There's been several threads about haw great the M is just like there was about the L, but it's not clear if any of these new threads are from people who had the L done.

So, has anyone who had previousely received the L flash gotten the M flash, and if so, what's verdict.

I'm curious about this too. About a month ago we got the "L" flash after having a CEL problem. I'm really happy with how the car is running after having it done.

What are the improvements/differences between the "L" and the newer "M" flash? I saw the TSB saying that everyone should have it done, but I'm a little nervous about having it flashed again when it's running so well on the "L" flash.

Got the L Flash 3-4 weeks ago. When came back for the M flash, turned out that the flash they gave me back then, unbeknownst to them, WAS the M flash. When they went to hook me up they found out it was what Mazda sent me back then!

I had the "L" flash some time ago (maybe one of the first) and like everyone else was quite pleased with the way the car's personality completely changed for the good. I got the "M" flash Friday and it runs as good as the "L". The main reason for getting it was to add the logic to the PCM to address flooding, which the TSB states. I have never had the flood problem, and don't want to experience it.

Interestingly enough, since Friday I have had three cold shutdowns with absolutely no problems.. First was when the MAZDA tech drove the car out for pickup and promptly shut it down. I know the engine was cold (gauge), but it fired right up . At home I have done two cold shutdowns (the weekly wash ritual) and again no problems. I believe the car is now as it was intended originally. I think the remapping of the ECU was done in haste to address EPA concerns and there were numerous consequences (poor performance, pig rich mixture, flooding, etc.) that have all been addressed by the "L" and "M".

I am very pleased with the car and believe the "M" is the way to go. By the way, mine is an AT.

I just had an "N" flash done after reading these posts. My car was running fine, but I hope it will address any future problems. When I took it in and requested the upgrade, the service person asked me if I had "been on the computer?" I told her I had done some research so they are aware they some of us are sharing our information. Thanks to everyone who reports their cars performanaces -- good or bad! I think Mazda does try to please its customers to some extent. It's the dealerships that can be "ify".

All the updates go in all at once..you can't do one and then the other.

There is no "N" at this time..WDS update 30.8 was just released this weekend and the latest for the Rx8 is still the "M"

Do you know when the "L" changed to "M"? Dealer indicated that it was actually before we or even they were aware the change had been made; for a while they still thought they were giving us L.

Does anybody have a answer to the question about checking for the M flash without taking the cover off to the ECU.

i have a printed copy of the original unrevised "engine cranks no start" tsb, which is bulletin # 01-011/04. that was issued on 3/11/2004. as of that date it was stil the"L" version. the revised version was released on 4/12/2004 so sometime in between there. probably at the end of march or beginning of april if i understand the wds major update "schedule" correctly.

Didn't have the 'L' flash but did just had my car flashed with 'M' and I can't really tell a difference at all. How can you check if you have had it done other than taking the service dept. word on it? The 'L' had the brake pumping test that swooped the oil needle back and forth but does the 'M' have anything like that? Thanks in advance.
