Loose Hose, to Vacuum Chamber?

Hey guys I was just poking around my engine bay, and noticed a odd hose that was connected to nothing. A quick search through the workshop manual, it looks like it connects to the vacuum chamber. Can anyone tell me what it's for? It looks like it's been loose for awhile? Any negative effects? I'm going to bring my 8 in first thing tomorrow morning to the dealer and complain.

What is a vacuum chamber?

It is probably the little one that goes under and right behind the throttle body. You'll see the nipple.

Easy to pull it off when doing plugs or even checking that damn dipstick.

It supplies 'suck' to the VFAD system under the air filter. When it's off it will spoil the idle and your fuel trims.

I just got it from this picture, it looks like the hose connects to the cylindrical unit called the vacuum chamber

That whole section at the bottom is for the variable ducts.

You can see where the hose should go on the end of that round chamber - looks like the plastic nipple broke off.
Meanwhile it needs to be capped/plugged.

(good picture...)

So basically it looks like this hose is a part of the VFAD system. Does it matter if I leave it unplugged till I get it checked? It looks like my VFAD would just be malfunctional, which would cause an increase in sound in low-end RPMs right?

I remove the whole line along with the resonance chamber and plugged it up.

Just keep in mind that by leaving it unplugged, it might mess with the MAF.

Try this: http://foxed.ca/rx7manual/2003mazdar...301005W16.html

I'm not sure if that's what you need...

Oh okay...

Well I think I know when it might have came loose. A few months ago I had the dealer check my air box and filter. Probably came loose back then at the dealer (since I don't see a broken nipple anywhere in the engine bay or my garage), and I also noticed after that check-up my low-end was distinctively louder.

A quick question,

the black plastic box on the right hand side of the throttle body (facing the car), what is this? Air resonator? To mix up the air/vacuum flow from the lines before it enters the body?

I recently made a cai custom, and connected the vacuum line from the L-hose connector clipped to the side of this plastic box to the center of my intake pipe as I have removed the stock fresh air duct and vfad duct.

My idea is to instead remove this whole plastic piece, and attach a mini breather to it.

Sound good?

quick question sorry to revive something old but i was adding some oil and just realized that two hoses were disconnected from my engine...attached is a picture with the two hoses circled (sorry for image quality as it was taken by my phone) i have a feeling from the picture it is the ssv actuator hose and vdi actuator hose? but im no mechanic =\ so i dont want to make assumptions. so if anyone could possibly tell me what they were, why they were disconnected and what damage could be done with them unplugged id really appreciate it. thank you

One is for the SSV and the other for the VDI probably but it could be for an oil injector, it's hard to tell from the crappy pic. Both are important and will cause significant issues.

they control the intake valves that help the engine perform to it's full potential, plus if they are disconnected you will have a vacuum leak when the solenoids open to operate them
