Loose gas cap?

The gas cap on my 8 seems really loose compared to other cars I've driven, even though it clicks. It's not throwing a CEL or anything, but other cars caps once they click they are pretty tight on there. Mine seems to bobble around a bit. So I'm wondering if this is "normal" since I don't have access to another RX-8 to see. My guess is that it is, otherwise I'd get the CEL, but who knows.

Thanks.

not really normal but you can replace your cap with one from the auto store for next to nothing. more durable then stock and unlikely to ever fail & through a cel.

I figured it was a bit odd. I'll try a replacement and see if that does the trick. Thanks.

I think it's two separate pieces, which is how you can get clicks from the ratchet mechanism and the cover turns even though the body of the cap is already firmly seated and not moving. I wouldn't worry about it unless it seems in danger of coming apart. As you note, you'd be getting a CEL if the cap weren't sealing.

My original gas cap never felt like it was on. It only caused a CEL (P0455) once. It was replaced by the dealer under MSP13. The new cap feels much more secure, and only caused a CEL (P0455 again) once.

I just checked mine and it doesn't wobble.

They said they thought it seemed normal to them, so I suppose it is. I'm totally good with it since there's no CEL. These systems are so tuned that I'm sure the slightest leak would throw one. Thanks for the replies!
