Looking for: Renesis HP/Torque Curve

Hi, my name is Cody Rients and I am currently a student enrolled at Arizona State University and as part of a class project I am involved in, we are designing a performance hybrid car. Since I am a huge rotorhead and own a RX-7 I choose to use a Renesis Rotary engine as part of my car. To perform analysis of my vehicle it would be extremely helpful if I could obtain a horsepower/torque curve for a stock Renesis engine (even an RX-8 dyno chart would be helpful). If anyone could just e-mail me an excel file or something with the data points for even just the torque curve I would be grateful.

Thanks in advance,

Cody Rients

Cody-
Check out the section "RX-8 Faq" on this forum. There you can find the original RX-8 HP/Torque curve on a graph.

It would be nice if I could find a graph like what is in the FAQ section, except one that has the U.S. models horsepower and not the 250-hp japan engine.

Thanks for the help finding a dyno chart!

Another thing I have been searching for with little luck is envelope dimensions of a Renesis engine (Length x Width X Height)?

Since you are sapping us for info, I would like to know what exactly you are doing. I'm really interested in hybrid gas / electric (and pure electric). Are you designing from the ground up or trying to convert an existing vehicle? Are you going to "put" an electric assist on the drive shaft or "put" some in-wheel electric motors on it? GM apparently has some in-wheel motors that are good for ~35 hp each. They had some truck making 70 more HP from putting the motors on the rear wheels. With some regenerative breaking, this would be a great way to add some extra permanent oomph to the RX-8 (esp. since the power is available 100% of the time). The only downside is the extra unsprung weight would really mess with the handling. Sounds like a fun project. You might want to check out the Toyota Volta for inspiration...

Have a look here :

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...g+power+torque

It comes from a SAE tech paper.

Electric Motor (hp): 19
Electric Motor (lb.-ft.): 100

I'd take a look at the GM product. Apparently Bridgestone has one as well (PDF attached). GMs are putting out 35 hp each (don't remember the torque rating, and google didn't help me this morning... looks like a reindex).

That would bump your mileage up alot. The electric side just look really anemic compared to existing offerings from Honda (73 HP / 79 ft lbs...okay, not really that bad compared to Honda) and Toyota (67 HP / 295 ft lbs).
