TX Look at my Gas Mileage

I have been keeping my gas mileage for a while and it always surprises me from week to week, Thought I would share so people can see how it varies in the 8. Don't pay attention to 12/27/09, from what I remember, I had to adjust for when I forgot to get a receipt.

That's nothin.

If you had the MS8, you'd get 10KMPG.

That's true but I would also have quad sequential turbos and I'd be making 800WHP.

nice!!

those seem pretty low though, a lot of 12's and 13's avg mpg. i assume you do a lot of 'hard' driving? or city and start/stop driving?

The spikes are weird. My spikes to 18-20MPG are highway road trip that I take to my parents. The 20MPG trips are when I take the Toll way around Austin because there is no traffic at all. If I cruise in 6th and keep it under 80MPH I can get 20MPG. If there is even a little bit of traffic it drops to 18MPG.

I drive fairly hard and there are a few canyon runs in there but I don't do a ton of city driving, I live less than two miles from work.

Your mpg is pretty erratic.. can you describe the driving style? Is the driving style consistent throughout? Like are you making the same trip every day (work) and getting so wildly different results or do you just drive to random places all the time?

I drive pretty normal, I red line a day but I don't drive like a maniac. I don't go over 4,000RPM until my oil temp gauge is above 170F. I live less than two miles from work and my drive to work daily is pretty smooth, no traffic hardly. When I get a chance I do row through the gears. I have not done any track days during this time frame as I have been finishing up some mods but I have done a few canyon runs.

Whats funny is if you look at May 01, 2010. You will see I filled up three times because that was the day of our "three sisters" (Texas8) run through the hill country. I beat on my car all day long and I still got an average of 16MPG.

Mods don't seem to have affected gas mileage at all actually. And this is my third engine and gas mileage is still about the same. the only bump I saw was when I replaced the fuel pump and that was probably more due to a change in premix due to the way my fuel filter sock looked. But either way the changes in mileage are due to driving habits IMO.

Good thing I didn't buy an 8 for gas mileage. The only time it was killing me was a couple years ago when I was driving 70-80 miles a day and gas was up to almost $4.00 a gallon.

What weird is, take a look at 11/26/2010 and 01/03/2010. I got 266 on a tank but look at the differences.

living 2 miles from work explains it. i got my first gas mileage ever living in dallas when i had a 5-mile roundtrip to work and home. i never broke 200 miles on a tank. it was pathetic.

now i regularly get (when i drive it) upper teens in mixed driving (live more like 20 miles round trip now) and low 20's on the highway if i'm under 70mph.

Yeah but for the first four years of my cars life I drove from New Braunfels to San Antonio (35+ miles) every day and had about the same mileage.

So I was averaging about 220 miles to a tank for the longest, sometimes dropping down to 180 if I didn't drive my car hard. Got my first tune from MM about 2 weeks ago. Now I am pushing 300 miles to a tank. Sure hope the later tunes return just as impressive numbers.

see sig, i used to get like 160 miles a tank before, but that's before i started to drive a little more conservatively (start off the line like a turtle, shift before 3-4k, coast in gear, brake early, let minivans pass me lol)
now i usually get like 200 - 210 miles, i do 100% city driving. but **** the EPA! i never get over 16mpg for city driving lol.

I do highway driving daily and cruise at 70mph, i will see 20mpg everytime.
once i go past 75mph though it drops down, but i watch my accessport air/fuel ratio, watch what mph keeps me in the 14's,

on the weekends i tend to drive car harder and will see 16mpg

I did a road trip this weekend on my latest AP map and I was in bumper to bumper traffic in 100+F weather, when the rest of this tank is gone I will post up results

Okay the last two highlighted are from a 240 mile road trip and are with my Cobb Stage 1 tune. The car seems to run the same as with the stock map, no noticeable difference in drivability. On the return trip I hit bumper to bumper traffic in 100+F temps and you can see the more than 1mpg difference as a result.

I get consistent 18 mpg in mixed driving and 22 mpg on the freeway. I keep it around the speed limit and redline it a couple of times per week.

Yeah if you drive conservatively I think the MPG can be decent but I can't do that a whole lot, I like to row through the gears to redline when I get a chance.

I was getting about 18 MPG and maybe 20 if just highway miles on the tank. Replaced original Bridgestone tires with new Continentals and mileage is a couple MPG better. No change to handling or driving style and a much quieter ride. Nothing else was done but the tires and it has been better for the last couple thousand miles now.
