instrument cluster test
did a search but couldn't find much. i tried the ins. cluster test and it did go into a test mode. for those who missed it:
hold the trip odo button then put the key in and start the car.
if you continue pressing the odo button it goes through a sequence of codes. my question is: what do the codes mean? some codes are off and others on. there seems to be a digital tach. feature too.
whoops...i found it......
01 / on / unknown
04 / on|off / drivers door open|door closed
08 / on|off / light sw on|light sw off
12 / oo / speedometer check
13 / oo / tachometer check
14 / oo / beeper check
16 / on (blinks 3 times) / low fuel light chk
18 / on (blinks 3 times) / unknown
22 /053 / unknown
23 /oo / fuel gauge chk
25 /oo / water temp gauge chk
all warning light check
50 / -- / unknown
51 / -- / "
31 /on|off / key in/out check
i wonder if the TPMS on/off is somewhere in there.

I believe the TPMS module is monitored by the PCM and it is a "CAN" module. The only thing that appears in the dash gauge cluster would be the light and beeper indicating failure. I think the only way to disable it is to "lie" to the PCM and tell it there is no TPMS system on the car.

I know I have said this in the past, but I am very close to investing the time to pull apart my center console and experiment with disconnecting the TPMS.
I was encouraged by how easy it was to remove the front and rear armrest consoles to install my new brake lever. I am expecting the control console to be equally easy.

If the PCM is reset without the module present, it might not poll it for errors.
If the presence of the TPMS module is hard coded into the PCMs that expect one, then it won't matter and will still set the light.
It is worth the try.

First of all, the panel is monolithic.
Second, there is a safeguard system that I'm not sure how to recalibrate. It is mentioned in the shop manual.
You would need the WDS to get it to work again.

why is the light such a problamb ? having never really seen mine on is it really bright?
does it shoot laser beams in your eye ?
or is it just like all the other cluster lights ?

The problem with it is that is blinks, so it is annoying.
It isn't too bright, so it wont grab your eye until you check your tach.
The cluster is monolithic, so there isn't a wire to cut. You would have to cut a circuit trace on the cluster board and, as I mentioned elsewhere, removal of the cluster freaks the PCM for some reason and you need the WDS to restart it.
It is in the WS manual. I'll post the actual page when I get a minute.

No, don't do that.
