Im new, Need advice..

Hello to everyone, I just got an RX8 used with 47,000 miles on it and I need some help. Ive read throught the forums and I have asked around in regards to some of the issues that the RX8 is known for. But still Some questions remain. I recently did an oil change myself, and yes I know is 5w-20 non-syn, but a mechanic that has worked on RX8's told me a thicker oil would be better since the milage on it. SO I went ahead and used 5w-30 non-syn. I hope it was a good choice. Im also confused on how should I treat the car. I've read around that the RX8 is meant to be driving hard with high RPMs, is this true? From what I've known, Taking care of an engine means not flooring it, but Im not a mechanic so .. Thanks in advance..

The car should be redlined every once and awhile, the higher rpms help keep the engine in 100% working order (certain valves only open after 6000 rpm and again at 7300 rpm.)

That oil should be fine.

Don't turn the engine off cold, make sure its warm (example don't start car, move it 10 feet, and turn off car.)

Enjoy and read, there is a ton of info here.

I would go with 5w-30 for the winter and then move up to 10w-40 for the summer

When the engine is cold, treat it like a baby. When the engine is warmed up, give it revs.

the Renesis engine is can take just about any oil so dont' worry about going too thick.
Look into the regional subforums and ask what the rest of the Florida crew is using. (there's some very knowledgable members in Fl)

Remember to keep the engine topped off with oil (check it every 2 weeks) and when the engine is warm, make sure to redline it from time to time. Not only will your engine thank you, you'll also be grinning from ear to ear.
