I Have Whine!!!!

Suddenly today, between 4.5k and about 6k I have a rather prominent whine! Sounds like a gyroscope is about the best way I can describe it. Any ideas or is it back to Mazda?

Is the whine present only in 6th gear? I have a noticeable but probably "normal" whine in 6th
at 3500 RPM. Changing transmission lube to Red Line MT90 did not cure it. My whine may be
temperature sensitive. I will know more about this when it warms up a little bit aroud here (central NY).

Do you have to be so catty :D ? I thought that whine was the nature of the smooth electric sounding rotary.

Cants trace the sound as only seems to happen when driving. It happens in all gears, most prominently 3rd but that is probably only becuase you can hold it between 4 - 6k without massively breaking the speed limit. If by cheese you mean creamy gunk, I have a fair bit on the dip stick, and a little in the oil filler cap but not more than normal really. Has pleanty of oil. It is definately a NEW sound, never had it before and had the car for about 4 months now.

I have a buzzing/vibration sound between 5k and 6k - sounds like a metal piece resonating - probably the cat heat shield (dealer said they could not reproduce it driving 7 miles - need a new dealer for sure). I also have a somewhat metalic "whine" after the car reached 8000 miles every time I press the accelerator (varries with RPM, does not go away like the first sound) and it seems it comes from a black module on top of the engine on the passenger side (AIR pump? - not sure what that is). Of course the dealer does not hear that one also.....

He was referring to cheese like in "whine" and cheese. Like you say, I Have Whine. So where's the cheese. Hohoho!
