How do you get the air filter cover off?

Excuse my noooooobish question, but I've been trying to figure out how to take that damn cover off for awhile now . I follow the instructions in the manual and disconnect the sensor, loosen the clamps, but that damn cover still won't come off wtf. I try to yank it up pretty hard, but I'm afraid im going to break something. Am I not yanking up hard enough? In the instructions they make it sound so damn easy. :o

Good Morning Skagen...

Assuming you have all hoses etc disconnected, the air box is still held in place by two bosses on the front (headlight) end of the box. Leave the air box clamped shut, lift the rear of the box until you have enough clearance then pull/push/slide the box toward the rear of the car until the two bosses come free. Lift the unit out. You do it once and it will all be clear.

So I went to check my air filter to see if it had any of that infamous oil on it since my oil pressure gauge is reading higher than what the manual says it should.

I can't get this thing open following the instructions in the manual, and the added instructions here seem to imply that I need to loosen other parts like the hose before the lid will open.

The other suggestion in this thread is to actually push the whole box back so the two pegs holding it to the front of the car get dislodged. Even trying that, I'm using more force than I feel is necessary or appropriate, so I gave up.

Ugh.

Be careful as there is another small hose underneath. We removed all hoses, plugs, etc, the first time so it was clear we would not break anything. A lot of work to do that but safer the first time. Good news is my air filter is clean and dry.

Note, keep an eye on the grommets, they are hard to find when the fall down around the engine

In that case I'm not going to attempt anything - I don't have the tools or to be honest the know-how to go removing hoses and such. When I take my car in for the L-flash I'll ask the tech to walk me through how they do it - I'm much better at following visual instructions than written ones, as are most people I'm sure.

Cool Five seconds.....

1-Take off big silly engine cover.

2-Remove battery cover.

3-Lean on the front two corners of the airbox, and push FIRMLY back, and up. The big hose connecting to the throttle body is corrugated, and will just compress, and the whole box will lift up and out, enough that you can unclip it and release the filter.

No hoses to remove, no clamps to undo. Helps to put some rubber 'silicone lube' on the grommets while it is out, to make it really slick next time.

I didn't pull the whole box out to put in my Green Performance Filter. Just undo the clips -- pull apart wide enough to remove the old filter and slide the new filter in. The stock filter is much wider than the aftermarket.

p.s. -- there wasn't any oil on my stock air filter (7000 miles)

I had this problem also. Don't remove the whole box if you just want to get the filter element out. I finally didn't disconnect anything, except the big engine cover, and just pushed back hard and was able to remove the element.

Got my Green Filter in today. I had to do like RXHusker said. Pop the clips..Pull out the stock filter (much deeper than Green).....Put in the Green Filter. I actually needed my son to pull the stock filter out while I held the air box open. Admittedly, it was not that easy, not for me anyway. But now it's in and I shouldn't have to mess with it for a while. I've only got 2500 miles on my car. Performance differences? Maybe it seems smoother, not necessarily more power, almost seems quieter. I dunno. But I do know I won't have to mess with an air filter any time soon!! Maybe an RB exhaust will make it sound better. Yeah Baby!!

The oil pressure gauge is actually an good-bad indicator. If the oil pressure is in the acceptable range, the needle parks somewhere just above the mid-range of the gauge. If the oil pressure is not in an acceptable range, the needle sinks to zero. So as long as the needle is pointing to near the mid-range, all is well. At least as far as that is an indication of good engine health.
