How can my dealer NOT get a Cat-Converter?

My goodness.. Getting pissed with my Mazda dealership... first they are dumb, then it's taking ages to repair the problem!

It started two months ago, they replaced the Spark plugs, but not the wires ... of course the wires are bad, so that caused the cat-converter to melt.. $2,000 part, under warranty.. but this was two weeks ago, and still no cat converter! Just got off the phone, ETA is August 29! Are you kidding me?? I did a google search, and Cat-Converters for the 8 are all over the place, in stock! I understand they get it from Mazda, but geez!!! Holy hell! In the meantime, my RX-8 is getting awful gas mileage, so I don't want to drive it as often... ARG ...

Just had to rant here....

Hmm

I just ran a quick check at Mazda's inventory.

MNAO has 47 cat converter in stock and ready to ship.

In case your dealership's part guy is a complete moron and couldn't find the part for some weird reasons, the converter 's part number is N3Y3-20-55XA

Well that's interesting to say the least. I'm in Canada, but that shouldn't make a difference. I think I'll give my dealer a call back with that info, thanks!

I don't think it matters.

Cuz there were a few times that Mazda cannot get the part in the USA, they actually have Mazda Canada to overnight me the parts.

i guess its the same for Mazda Canada ?

Well, got off the phone with the service guy again.

He said when they put in the order two weeks ago, it was placed on backorder, the ETA they gave them at that time was August 29th, but he said if they are in stock that they should get them in. Many times the ETA is way off, and they get them sooner. So it can come in anytime and he will call me as soon as it comes in.

So I'm hoping this gets done by this weekend. Oh and he also said the wires being bad and needing replacement also causes a drop in MPG, but they want to do everything at once.

That sucks, but keep this in mind.

I work at a VW/Audi dealer. Sometimes a part will show in stock, but that means at another dealer, not the warehouse, hence "backorder". If the other dealer doesnt want to "sell" it to our dealership we have to wait on the backorder. So the "47" in stock may be cats at dealerships around the country. Just a thought.

I know what you mean, but the site I check shows real time Mazda's own stock. not the dealership network's stock.

Well, dunno how MNAO and Mazda Canada works. cuz like I said couple of times MNAO don't have the part, they will have the Canada side to ship my parts over (overnight too, thats some expensive ****, at no extra cost to me) one time they have to locate the parts in Japan (for my FC), took a month something to get here (boat)

but now it sounds like Canada side cannot get stuff from MNAO side. gotta wait then.
