How bad is the stealership trying to screw me on this?

I know it's pretty bad. I'm looking for advice on what I should get done.

I brought the car in because I suspected the radiator fan assembly was dead. Apparently it is, only one fan is spinning and very slowly. The motor is dead so it keeps blowing the fuse too.

They came back with this whole list of things to do. I had them send me this email of what they were going to do:
REPLACE COOLANT FANS
641.00 FANS
90.00 RELAYS
435.60 LABOR
43.86 TAX
39.95 SHOP SUPPLY
1250.41 TOTAL

OIL CHANGE 39.95

REMOVE INTAKE TUBE TO REMOVE OIL
49.50 LABOR
51.00 OIL AND AIR FILTER
3.06 TAX
103.56 TOTAL

INJECTION CLEANING 169.00
INDUCTION CLEAN 179.00
MIST AND POLLEN FILTER 169.00
MANUAL TRANS SERVICE AND REAR DIFF SERVIE 250.00
COOLANT FLUSH 149.00

-----

The car just reached 60,000 miles. The radiator fan labor and just part cost seems like complete bullshit so I'll probably replace that myself. Do I need to replace the radiator at the same time as the fan assembly? I was looking at just getting the Mizu fan shroud kit it that fits on the stock radiator. Does anyone have a good part recommendation for that?

Apparently oil got into the intake tube or something and that's why they need to service that.

How much of the other stuff would be easy enough for me to do or an acceptable cost for someone else to do it?

Thanks!

That's way too expensive. Take it somewhere else or look in the DIY section to see what your comfortable doing with those instructions.

Try searching the diy's for all the fluid changes and cleaning

For the rad, may as well go aftermarket.

Every single item can be done entirely yourself. PLEASE don't pay them for it.

Radiator fans are fairly easy. A bit annoying, but entirely doable yourself in an afternoon
Oil change with top grade oil and filter is still only $50 or so, quick and easy. Basic castrol GTX or penzoil and an OEM filter is more like $20
Injection cleaning is a bottle of injector cleaner for $5 or so
Induction clean.... sounds like an upper intake manifold cleaning. Maybe an hour of work removing it all with a 10mm wrench, socket, and flex joint, and a $5 can of throttle body cleaner.
Transmission fluid change is easy, drain it out, put the plug back in, remove the shifter, pour in exactly 2 quarts of your choice of MT fluid (Redline MT90 is popular, don't use Royal Purple, too many trashed transmissions with it)
Coolant flush is just the cost of coolant from auto parts store

Also, why would you get charged for an oil change AND the "REMOVE INTAKE TUBE TO REMOVE OIL" that seems ridiculous.

I've looked at the DIY for the radiator\fan assembly and yes, that seems really easy and straight forward.

The fluid stuff I've never done but it seems easy enough. I just don't have a ton of time and I'm always needing to drive.

Seems like a good experience to do all this stuff done by myself though.

Thanks for the opinions so far guys, much appreciated.

I guess I'm most wondering about the radiator and fan assembly.
1. Should I just get some fans and keep the stock shroud? If so, what fans are good?
2. Whole new shroud and fan combo?
3. New radiator and fan assembly?

Your cheapest and simplest option would be to find a junkyard 8 and pull the fan and shrouds out of that. Learn on a car that you don't have to worry about disabling before doing it on yours, and get everything dirt cheap. They don't fail commonly, so it's also a pretty reasonable shot.

Buying all new ones will be more expensive, for any of the 3 options you listed, but also viable. The main difference between the aftermarket ones and the stock ones is the stock ones are better at slower driving speeds and parked, etc... Aftermarket ones flow more air overall, but they are made with track driving in mind (where fans aren't the critical part, overall air flow and minimal restriction behind the radiator is the biggest point) more than bumper to bumper traffic (where the stock shrouds are used to pull as much air as evenly as possible using smallest fan and engine load needs, but the shrouds are pretty restrictive to high speed air flow)

Doesn't mean they aren't sufficient, because they probably still are, but it's your call on what you think is best.

I have all the new parts and everything coming in. None of the junkyards close to me had any rx8s with front ends intact.

I picked up my car from the dealership and after the car stalled out 1 mile down the road I realized they didn't reinstall the air intake. Stupidest thing I've ever seen =\ it was sitting in the trunk...

WTF?

Part number LDY461J6X should not be more than $35. Fram version is like $13.

The price differential should give you an idea what they're trying to do.

I hope your engine didn't suck in any hard objects, like sand or small pebbles. That would make short work of your engine.
