help on removing the screws on the brake rotors..i mess one of the screws and i cant get them off any help would be helpfull

Try using an impact driver. If you stripped the head, drill them out.

+1, They are only needed during assembly, if you drill them out you do not need to replace them.

I tried an impact driver when I did mine a couple years back. It didn't work. Just drill them out...they serve absolutely no purpose. There purpose is purely for manufacturing.

Nope, there are used when manufacturing the car to keep the rotors from falling off the car. The time from when the rotors are installed to when the wheels are bolted on is long enough for something to happen if they were not secured to the car.

You don't have to, but to be on a safe side, it's better to replace it.

No, there is no reason to replace them.

there is no reason to replace them. they are on there so the factory can get the brakes assembled easily with the rotor staying in place. When you bolt on the wheel to the car it holds the rotor in place.


i use a torch to blast the heads of them off if they don't come free from heating up. But i also work in a shop where i have easy access to torches.

In case all five lug nuts come off and the wheel, the brake rotor will remain on the car.

The caliper would have to come off too so the rotor could come off.

The screws just keep the rotor centered and flat on the hub. They aren't needed.

Geesh torch them? Drill them? This is what you need. Impact screwdriver, you can get them at almost anyplace that sells tools. I got mine at Harbor Freight for like $15.00.

9k the best bet is just drilling them out. I tried the impact screwdriver and it just stripped out the screws. The bolts in question are obviously a low grade of steel being I stripped them out so easily and I was able to drill them out in no time at all with an all purpose bit. I wouldn't want to see someone wasting their money on an impact screw driver just to remove these useless bolts.

You must be doing it wrong or using the wrong sized bit

I have done this abagillion times on everything from jeeps to a mercedes and it works every time. Heck the last 8 I did was from up north and the rotors are screws were rusted to hell. It took a couple of whacks but they came out.

No I def. had the right size bit. I borrowed the whole kit form Autozone. I used the largest bit that would fit the bolts. I honestly think my issue lied with the fact that the bolts are manufactured with low grade steel. Op, give it a try. You can borrow a kit form Autozone like I did. However if it doesn't work for you don't be afraid to drill those bitches out. Good luck! By the way 9k i have used the impact screw drivers with success in the past which is why I tried this option first. It was after I stripped them out that I did a bit of research and found they were not needed. So I ripped out the old drill!

I just use a cheap screw bit designed to be used with a socket and hammer it in. Works every time(like Colt 45).
