Exclamation HELP! Engine revs up and down during first day crank

Hi,
when I crank my car for the first time of the day - engine cold, it revs up to the regular cold cranking rpm - around 2200 rpm. after about 30 sec it starts jumping down to 1000, back up to 2200, down to 1000, back up to 2200. It does it for about 2-3min until the engine is warmed up.

Future cranks it acts fine, only if the engine has been sitting for a couple of hours and is cold.

Temperature here is normal, i'd say bout 80degrees. I'm in Germany and dont really want to take it to a dealership as the have no f... clue about this car over here. Do we have like a cold cranking module or something that could have gone bad? Got about 35K miles on it, 2005, 6 speed manual

Any advise would be great. I already tried reseting the ECU, didnt do anything for me

HELP!

mine does almost the exacty same thing when cold. I have 05 6 speed manual with about 55K kilometres on it.
The revs will start bouncing around almost immediately until the engine is warmed up.
All recalls and tsb's are up to date and the engine runs fine after that.

reminds me of my friends built camaro. he has a variable cylinder head? i dont know. but it revs all over the place before it settles down and he can drive.

if you have the clutch in, does it do it? if not likely you have a failing neutral pos switch.

i have the issue, it comes and goes.

if the rev jumps up & down, Up & down, up and down ... for a couple of minutes until warm up. it could be ur neutral switch acting up. it happened to me once. but only when it was really cold.

Ok.. what if it doesn't really jump up & down repeatedly, but has a flashing CEL and a smell (as if someone lit a match) coming from the exhaust? The car trembled a bit and the engine had a much louder sound (very hard to describe). Once the engine warmed up.. the trembles stopped and the CEL stayed solid. It happened this evening.

Neutral switch is the best bet.

^Neutral Switch??

Took it to Advance Auto so they can read the CEL code(s)..

I have a small emissions leak and...
Misfire on Cylinder 2.... I know it means a Rotor..I believe that's the rear Rotor?

After searching... I found that it could be a serious of things.. Plugs, Wires, Coils.....

Now, you guys have added Apex Seals, Cat, and Neutral Switch...

Could anyone be so kind and it explain that to me a lil' better??

neutral position switch. not you problem...

cel codes you give is loose or bad gas cap..

loose plug wire or bad plug or coil on rear rotor..

or something really bad like bad rear rotor..

It's cool...

I have about 44,000 miles... but the years caught up to me before the miles.. so my "warranty" per say has expired. But with the new extended engine warranty, I was wondering if it covered that...

Ironically enough.. I too am from Orlando, FL lol.

you are still under the powertrain warranty.. that was extended to 5 years 60k miles..

the core is now 8 years 100k miles. pm me if you need help.

but i would drop it of at your dealer and let them figure it out..

and if they dont we will!

Can you believe that my Bee has BEEn at the dealer for 2 days now????

Day 1: Ran the heck out of the car...we ran some tests..can't figure out what's wrong..is it ok if we keep it until tomorrow..we want to start it from a cold start in the morning... I'l call you in the morning.

Day 2: It's...after 1pm..so I call...left a VM....at about 3pm...Ring.. Hey we looked at it in the morning, but honestly we haven't been able to get back to it..You're welcome to pick it up and bring it back tomorrow morning or leave it another night for further testing... I said Keep it! No sense in picking it up just to turn around and bring it back.

It's now 2:42pm no call as of yet. If I don't get a call by 3pm...I'm going to go get it.. They close at 4pm on Saturdays..!

Is the SSV opening and closing when the idle hunts?? you might want to check the solenoid and pull the vac line off the actuator to check and see if it stops...

if you hook up an accessport or scangauge2 to your car, I bet you'll find the rpm bounces around when the car is in open loop. Soon as it is off the initial warmup rpm setting, it will go into closed loop and your rpm will settle.

mine does this only when it's warm and i start it up again... rpm hunts for a little bit. It did this on my original engine, and it does it on my brand new one, so I'm sure it isn't indicative of engine problems as both my new and old were perfectly fine.

I've had the same problem on an older Prelude.

The problem was 3 bad TB valves. Ended up replacing the entire TB

Well...it appears I have a bad coil.

From what they told me about the Extended Warranty...was that it only covers 1 bad part... in other words... it only covers 1 coil... I have to come out of pocket for the other 3 coils (if I choose to change them) and the plugs and wires. I can except the the plugs and wires, since that's maintenance... but jeez...they can't cover the other 3 coils. No!

Soooo a 5 day slumber party at the Dealer for nothing... I took the car and I'm taking it somewhere else to get the job done for a heck of a lot less $$$... Would anyone assist me in some ball park figures on:

Coils
Plugs
Wires?

Thank you..
