HELP!!! car loses power when hot

so my 2004 rx8 is losing power when hot.. it can even get to the point where it dies.... it runs perfectly fine when it is cold and i first start it but after about 30 minutes its like driving a honda civic with 95hp.... not only that but it has a rough idle... i have a good feeling it isa heat issue because when it is cold out i can get a longer running time out of it before any problems arise. however, the temp gages all read normal.

p.s. no engine light is on

id like to find out what this is because i dont have the money right now to be paying mazda the outragous amount to look at it and or sell me over priced parts

Please give us all the details. The service it's had and parts replaced. Miles, model, year, type of driving it gets(short trip, long commutes), fuel used, oil type and consumption, ever flooded, red lined. Just any thing that will help us help you. Have you had your engine de-carboned?

I still get the same problem occasionally. This usually occurs after constant driving for around a half hour. After getting off the highway it can feel like the car has no power. All guages read ok, my idle is fine, but if I hammer it a few times, then slowly the car starts to act normal again. Coils, wires and plugs are all less than a few months old, MAF is clean. 50k miles on the car.

you check your cat? if you are losing power at high rpms, it can mean your cat is dead and is clogging up. unbolt it (its 3 bolts) look inside, and report what you see. If it looks honeycomb, then it is good to go and something else is the problem. Remember, your cat is covered up to 80k by emissions law.
