HELP - ABS, Tire Pressure, Service Engine Soon, Traction Control LIGHTS ON

Hi all, I recently purchased a 2004 RX8 with 41,000 miles on it. When I drove away I noticed the Tire Sensor light was on, but figured it to be a bad/broken tire sensor. A little ways down the road the ABS light came on, as well as the traction control light. Of course I wasn't paying attention and I ran out of gas 25 miles down the road. I had someone bring me fuel and finished the rest of the 50 mile drive. In that time the Service Engine soon light came on also. My buddy who brought me gas told me that my brake lights weren't working also.

I figured that the brake light switch was just bad, but after driving it around I'm wondering if maybe my christmas tree of lights on the dash might all be linked together? I have a professional MODIS computer scanner, but of course the software hasn't been updated yet so I can't scan it until later in the week. However the ABS light goes off and comes on a couple minutes after turning the vehicle on and driving it. The Traction Control light has gone on and off a couple times, and the Tire Sensor light went out and came on at least once also. I think the Service Engine soon light might be gas cap related since I was in a rush on the interstate to get the fuel in when I ran out.

If anyone has any input please let me know. This is stressing me out. The car really seems to run great though. Would just like to make sure it is safe.

First, how the hell can you run out of *Fuel*

and I think your battery or Alternator is bad, check the battery first, open the plastic cover, and see what brand of battery is it. If its some Panasonic crap, you're @ 41K miles you can probably get Mazda to do the No Start TSB for free to your car.

You got it used, where u got it from ? a Mazda dealer or ?

and you might want to Search and read around.

well.. unless it is a salvage from a flood. faulty TPMS shouldn't trip your ABS. Faulty ABS sensor will trip the DSC & TCS to disable mode. If your ABS light is on also, that means ABS is also disabled. Sooo your rolling old school, no ABS, DSC/TCS...

SES as in Check Engine Light (CEL)? you have an error code, so until you get that code and if your scanner doesn't have the code description. Look in the Tech sticky forum for the code list.

Welcome to the board.

Check your tire pressure. If your tire pressure is below 28 psi your TPMS light turns on. You probably have low pressure. That's the point of the sensor. It's trying to tell you your tires a low.

The traction control light will flash when you activate it because you lose traction like when you drive like an ***.

If I were you I would just get out of the car and back away slowly since you managed to run out of gas, have too little air in your tires, not put your gas cap on, and clearly haven't read your owners manual yet.

For the OG poster, try this one
Start your car. Turn your wheel all the way to the right then all the way to the left and see if that helps.

And you dont have to drive like an a$$ for the lights to come on. You can be at the track too

Obviously I already checked the tire pressure since the light was on. They are all well above 30psi. That's why I thought maybe some of these lights were related somehow. And I'm not driving this car wildly where the traction control should come on. It is steadily lit and has gone off once, but is back on. These problems are not because of normal operating procedures, so the manual isn't going to help. I will be able to scan it later in the week when I get my MODIS software updated.

I actually purchased 3 cars when I bought this one, so I wasn't the one driving it home. My eyes weren't on the gauge, a friends were. That's not either here nor there.

I read something else on the battery being an issue, is it a low voltage problem?

I noticed today that the ABS and Traction Control go off at the same time. Service Engine soon is still on as well as the Tire Sensor. I've been reading and it seems like this is a very common issue.

Congrats on the new buy!

If you just got the car and its still under warrenty take it to the dealer and let them fix it for free.
Could be coils or spark plugs or your gas cap is not on tight or bad c.a.t.
Let the pros look at it.
Dont wast time.

These have 50,000 mile warranties, right? I know this has aftermarket exhaust and what looks to be an aftermarket intake pipe. Not sure what else, I wonder if any of that voids the factory warranty?

This is of great help. I didn't know if the tire pressure is below 28 then the light comes on the dash. THanks!
Also, My tires are rated with a max of 50 psi...I have winter tires on now...I filled them to 34 psi....Is this too low for winter driving?
This is my first sports car. I love it! I'm wondering if I put in 45 psi, will the traction be less or could I get a blow out easier? Same for Summer tires, any recommendations for tire pressure is the Summer with a Max of 50psi per tire?
Thanks soo much!

I have the same issue with my 2004 rx8. My TPS light is flashing, Brake light is on, ABS is on, and traction control light is on. I was cruisin' along on the highway at 70 looked down after making a pass, and they were all on. About 10 minutes before hand while car was cold, I flooded engine w/ too much fuel while passing a semi. Not sure if this would have tripped all these other lights or not. We just replaced the plugs, coils, and wires. Any help would be appreciated!
