Had my 04 MT GT in the garage
Been out of contact for a while now on the boards. had my car in the shop at Hillard Ford/Mazda in South Fort Worth, TX.
Standard 45k check-up and while they were at it, I told them about a noise from 1st, 3rd, and 5th gears (small rattle / can full of beads), clunking on settling into 1st gear, and a horrid heat shield rattle when you run over lane markers on the driver side. results:
Complete A-Z clutch replacement ($1500) solved rattle in 1, 3, 5.
Demonstrated for service tech the lane divider rattle- repair tech unable to reproduce (however it rattled when I drove off the driveway lip onto the main street when I picked it up[zero dollars charged])
Clunking into first- repair tech unable to reproduce (clunked loud enough that people looked at me when I was pulling out of the service garage return lane [zero dollars charged])
Dealer recommended 45k evaluation, fluid check/top off, tire / brake inspection, lights, suspension ect ($250) could not find anything causing fishtailing in wet weahter other than tire wear (however tire wear looks like "over preassurization wear" when constantly pressed to factory spec)
Bottom line, I dont think I'm going back to a dealer again unless I know for a guaranteed fact it's something warranteed that broke. that was a rape job I could have done without, so close to christmas.

I too was just raped by my dealer $265 for plugs...they go for $105 on-line.
