Monday I accidentally flooded it after my 4 hour detail and I failed to deflood it myself. So I took her down to the dealer and had them revive her and do a compression test while they were at it... I know people ask for altitude/elevation as well so i guess fresno is 370ft. It looks a little low on rotor 1. Any thoughts?

at 74K miles. those numbers don't seem all that bad.

but don't get too excited now, I had something like that at 30 something K, it fell into 5.x in 9 months for unknown reason, Engine warranty time

I seriously doubt my engine would produce those numbers and its running great.

I'm not sure if we should suspect the compression test method or just love the fact that the engine works just so gawd damn well.

 

Yeah, my engine runs really smooth.. Except the really badly designed engine mounts. Mines all torn up.

 

I would be cautious with those numbers.

At 77k miles, my compression was in the mid 8s then when I hit around 81,000 it dropped to low 7's and one face had 6.7. 1,000 miles later it dropped even more and the dealership's had my car for the passed 2 weeks for an engine replacement. My warranty just expired 9/23 so I barely made it. I'd recommend get a compression test every couple of months depending on your warranty.

 

So far, so good. But needs caution, simply because of the mileage and year of the car with the original engine.

 

Will keep an eye on it. I have about 30 days left on the warranty

You must not have done any research before you bought yours if that comes as as surprise. There's so many factors that contribute to a healthy rotary engine (or an engine in general) that you shouldn't assume all/most rotaries "go out that soon."

As was stated above, owners have gone 200K+ miles on their original engines.

My car starts and runs perfectly. Better than when new actually. Of course the engine has all of 3,000 miles on it...

BTW, you shouldn't assume "these engines" refers to all Renesis engines as that wasn't the intent. Perhaps to keep your ire and that of the other fellow off of me I should have said "some of these engines."

To tell someone they are crying or whining about something is a way to belittle the other in the conversation and to minimize their statement.
The engine has caused problems for some, including me, and their claims are legitimate. Otherwise, Mazda wouldn't have extended the warranty as they did.

 

I'm sure some people are sick of seeing the various complaints at this point, but they are legitimate.

Since I'm at 60k miles on my 2005 this particular thread kinda hit me with the folks coming in and talking about losing the engine at 77k.

I have a feeling some cars getting one engine after another was caused by something else other than the engine. Cuz there are people with no issues at all. I had 1 engine replacement but it's more like it got messed up by early ECU flash.

the extended warranty is more like a "Trust our engines, trust our brand!" thing more than "we got you cover cuz we know it's f-ed up", some ppl appreciate it. some don't.

I have an RX8 with 125k miles. It runs great as long as I change the coils and plugs when necessary. The problems I've been having are poor gas mileage (15mpg city), and sluggish hot starts. I just had a compression test done and am looking for opinions. I guess it comes down to rebuild it or sell it. :P I'm attaching an image of the compression test. Rear rotor varies from 6 - 6.5 kg/cm. Front varies from 5.5 - 6 kg/cm. Thoughts?

 

What is your cranking speed? Those may be passing, and may be failing. Likely failing, assuming your starter isn't failing, but without the cranking speed it's not really clear where you actually are.
