I heard from a friend that by spacing out your O2 sensor from the midpipe it should get rid of the CEL caused by that pesky sensor. I believe its just a 1/2" or 3/4" NPT thread right? Then all I would need is a close nipple and a coupling. Has anyone heard of this or tried it themselves? I'm guessing the theory is if you get the O2 sensor out of the majority (if not entirely) of the way of the flow of exhaust, then it dilutes it's sample. I'm not sure if that would cut it because the oxides and **** would still be there.

Some cars won't get a CEL anyway.....but it it does..this won't help

 

Why? Would it be bad thing to even attempt? Maybe it would run like crap but I've got access to all kinds of stainless fittings at work.

 

It won't hurt, so if it is a zero-investment project, go ahead and try it.
That sensor isn't used for managing the engine (it is emissions-only), so it has no effect on how the car runs.
But, as Dannobre said, it won't likely affect the CEL for that sensor - the PCM is too aware.

Also if an o2 is only used for emissions could then the voltage going through it not be changed to a constant value to fool the pcm?

 

No.... the PCM doesn't look for a "constant value".
Now before you start asking why... go search through the many other threads where people asked the exact same question.
The information is out there....

 

Ok I was wrong its not even an NPT fitting. It looks somewhat like an ORB (O-ring Boss) fitting as the threads have no taper to them. Can anyone confirm this?
