German Castrol in Rx8 with Sohn adapter
I have purchased the Sohn adapter and containers and all and will be installing them as soon as I recover from my recent surgery.
I know Royal Purple is a good oil and supposedly it also burns well, however the burning part is a moot point, since all I will be burning is Idemitsu oil which I also premix with.
Kevin from RotaryResurrection recommended that I do not use the recommended 5W20-5W30 oils but instead use 10W30 for breaking in the new seals and then use 10W40 or 20W50.
German Castrol is 0W30 but its viscosity is on the high side so they say it is more like a 5W30-40
I read somewhere that if you do a lot of low speed driving or stop and go you actually need thicker oil than when keeping the revs high for a long time. At stop and go you have a lot more load supposedly than when just maintaining revs more or less constant, hence the need to change oil sooner if you do a lot of stop and go driving.
Also thinner oil will lubricate better at high revs, so ... I mean this is a question beaten to death by bench racers like us and out of all the discussions on the internet 99% is speculation and 1% is actual knowledge from people who actually work with oils and know what they are talking about.
I was just wondering if anyone has used german castrol.
Also if using Royal Purple, what weight do u use? 10W40?

I used GC 0W-30 and had it tested, it did not perform that great compared to the other I have ran tested. And not only did it nor perform so great, it was tested after an only 1500 mile oil change interval. It's good stuff but not so hot in the rotary dealing with fuel dilution. The results are in the used oil analysis thread.
