gear grinding

gear grinding
Lately i noticed when getting on the car roughly around 6-7000 and higher rpm in second gear when i shift into third it grinds a little. If im up to about 5000rpm and shift to 3rd everything is smooth but higher than that it grinds, anyone know why this is? I know i should just bring it into service and i will i just have no time but ill get around to it eventually i just hate reving out 2nd gear til then.

try simply shifting slower: the higher your rpm, the more rpm you have to drop while you upshift, as the change in ratio stays constant. i'd worry if it was grinding no matter what you were doing (short of rev matching), at any rpm, on up and down shifts. but for right now it sounds to be a case of shifting m4d qU1c|< yo'.

Does this mean you can't shift fast ? .... that kinda sux... how does this affect Auto-Xing ? I watch those videos and the japanese guys shift rather quickly while redlining, does this mean you will have to replace synchros more often ? what about tranny fluid ?

Damnit it's been like 5 hours... answer me already... :-D
But seriously this is a random question about cookies....I think...
I logged in at the front page, went to this forum through the diff forum names... read the posts on the grinding... clicked "post reply" and typed all of this. clicked "submit reply" and it took me to the screen that says your not logged in...? I would log in again, and the screen where you type your post reply would pop up, with the things I typed... go to submit and would do same thing.. I restarted Internet Explorer and it works fine... what settings should my cookies be on ?

TheBuddy,
it doesn't mean you can shift fast, it means that those professional drivers have talent, while ham-handing your transmission is not going to do it any good. just slowing down while you shift your gears isn't going to lose you a race in auto crossing (as you do most of the course in 2nd or 3rd gears).

I was just kinda curious. I do not have an RX-8, hopefully in late summer, but who knows. So I can't really say anything about them first hand, only what I see on videos. and I have seen them shift very fast when redlining, does this put more stress on the engine? how about the drive line ?
Very random, but could you tell me where I should post about a school I hope to be attending ? Just to get comments and suggestions of the school and maybe what I should try to do before attending.
P.s. damn the cookies

it's really hard on the synchros, it's really hard on the selectors, and yeah, it's not so easy for the engine (but won't bust it up as bad as all that). it's really an extremely advanced technique and not exactly necessary outside of the highest echelons of competition.
anything that's not to do with cars goes in the lounge so that's pretty much your "everything" section.
...and i like cookies, especially choco-chip and gingersnaps :p
and internet ones are pretty cool too, just stop using crappy microsoft products

Well i brought the car in for the 2 recalls and told them about the problem shifting that i told you guys. A day goes by at the dealer and no call so the next day i call them to see whats up and they say, your car wont be ready til monday cause a new transmission is being delivered for your car. I was kinda suprised it needs a new trans, but no complaints from me. I told them do what you gotta do. Its not so bad cause when i dropped it off they gave me a loaner, a yellow mazda 6 with only 700 miles on it, still has them temporary plate. So ill just have fun and beat the crap out of that car til i get mine back.

mine was starting to grind going into 2nd gear. I took it to the dealer and they said it was fine. I thought they were BS'ing me. I stormed out of my car and started driving and everything was fine. Then it was grinding again. ...
I found out I'm retarded and somewhere along the line lately I developed a habit of pulling the stick hard to the left and then down when shifting from 1st to 2nd, which apparently the linkage doesn't like as it binds up and the gears like even less as they grind... I pull straight back now and everything is fine :o
